There's a reason that most classical financial advice only gives rather low percentages (as low as 5% IIRC) of pms in your portfolio that are only supposed to go higher if you get older and actually have more wealth. When you're young, you're supposed to go into higher risk things to actually grow your wealth, assuming if it goes wrong you still have plenty of earning time to make up for your fuckup.

Nowadays it's a bit different.
Silver is manipulated, so there's some non-neglible chance that it'll "moon", so there's a chance that your stack will not only protect your wealth, but also that it might increase it.
Same with all warning signs for inflation flashing red: Gold (and thus also silver by some amount) have a good chance of becoming more important in the future.
Couple that with the general economic (and thus stock market) uncertainty and you'll end up with much higher rates of pms at a lower level of wealth.

They have checking Accounts, savings accounts, 401ks, social security etc. But having valuable assets outside of the clutches of the leveraged financial system is a whole new relevant asset class as the current system is saturated with debt. There are no more bubbles to inflate and inflation/wealth confiscation will be the name of the game for the next 10-20 years if things don't just outright collapse. Looking up the Reichspfennig, so that I just don't post stupid shit, I found this gem on wikipedia
Essentially, it says that the buying power of 1RM was equivalent to the buying power of between 3.7 and 4.7€ in '20 (so probably between 4.5 and 6€ in '23…).
Now looking at the famous 5RM with its 12g of Ag the spot price of that thing is 9€, so it lost quite a bit of value.
However, if we're looking at the price for buying the one with the windmill, that is at 15€ so we're actually not that far away from its original purchasing power (which would be between 18.5 and 23€). IF we're looking at burger prices however (see the arbitrage opportunity in my previous post), we're even seeing a significant increase in purchasing power.

As you said, you already found the Aufgeldtabelle, but beware of two things:
gold.de doesn't differentiate between the version with and without the windmill, and the cheap ones are always the ones without it!
And those actually are close to spot! (well, at least for europe, where any bullion has at least 19% premium due to taxes, so 16% seems good enough). But the ones you want tend to be at least a quarter to a third more expensive.
And most stores gold.de (note the .de!) is listing only ship to Germany and not the the Ostmark. Haven't checked ALL of them, but so far, only Heubach shipped stuff to Austria for me. And they (as have most others) have a >only sold in collector amounts! caveat with it. Don't know what this amount is (10 is no problem), but they probably won't sell you hundreds. Plus, they appaer to only get limited amounts and don't have them available always.

Hey Frogbro, that is an interesting piece and the results could vary considerably depending on skill. The Ecu in the bottom is probably too gunked up to be saved but I believe the side coins could be removed by cutting through the solder with a jeweler's saw and hammered flat between/on hardwood, then you could use small "needle files" to remove the excess solder. You'd have to sell them as "cleaned/ex-jewelry" but people would still definitely pay more than melt value for them. Just look at that ebay seller linked this thread retailing hundreds of dipped and cleaned Nazi pfennigs for way more than numismatic value; serious collectors won't want them but normies who just want a few shiny fondlers won't care at all. If that's priced around spot I'd definitely grab it.

Just that one pillar dollar alone flattened and cleaned up would probably pay for most of the total cost, I'd be inclined to keep it though because pillar dollars are supremely based. Don't pay much mind to the anons who think the coins would be worthless if skillfully removed, flattened and cleaned up or that it's worth more as a crudely made ashtray. Yeah they're not serious collector grade pieces but there is a healthy market for "budget" coins that cost less than pristine specimens but still look decent.

Nah, it's probably early-mid 20th century, and for whatever reason pieces like that tend to go pretty cheap. I got this bowl with a 1628 Austrian Taler for scrap price, dude kept lowering the price and relisting it and there were no takers until I decided to get it once it was below spot. Granted he misidentified it as a 1/2 Taler but still, if anyone actually cared about coin dishes and ashtrays it would have been noticed and sold at a higher price much sooner.

I actually have a pretty good handle on it and could bore you at length, but basically the world of numismatics today was very different 100 years ago. I have some catalogs and dealer buy price lists from the 1890s-1920s and unless you had great rarities in top condition many coins that are treasured 4+ figure gems now were basically just scrap. I don't have it handy but as I recall you could buy things like Flowing Hair and Draped Bust silver dollars, very expensive now, for just 1.50-$2 each in the equivalent of Fine-XF condition. There were far more coins available per-capita and far fewer collectors, it didn't really become popular until after WW2. Anyway, old demonetized coins like circulated Spanish dollars or French Ecus were literally just scrap back 100 years ago so craftspeople and silversmiths used them as decorative novelties for various products, if they could quickly solder some scrap coins together and sell it to a tourist for a buck or 2 over melt value instead of going through the trouble of chiseling and hand-chasing their own decorations in a silverware trinket then why not?

Here are my Indian "Chuckram" (formerly Sneedram) demitasse coin spoons, these little 0.3g babbys sell for $5-10 each now but back when the English were lording over the poos these coins were just junk so using 5 per spoon was transforming them from crap into a value-added curiosity for well-to-do tourists or whoever and was simply good business.

I don't have a pic of the other side but it was more worn/polished, still very much worth buying for scrap price though. One day I'd like to free it but it's soldered all around so I need to improve my skills before trying it with confidence. Until then it's still a damn cool looking piece. Be sure to use that ashtray a few times and see how it suits you before dismantling it, maybe you'll decide you like using it too much to chop up quite yet. Practice and improve your skills with other things in the meantime.
