Dev here. I can kinda answer this one. It's basically easier to code bc you use the metamask connection to get onchain data, essentially. Yes you can get the data without connecting, but that requires extra work cause you have to deal with things as 2 special cases (connected and not connected). It is fucking retarded tho, but that's why it happens.

as a total amateur i wrote a dapp where the homepage contained the dapp in a section, and it barely took me any work
also most dapps i know show fine until you click connect
