Icahn already has ties to Newell and Westpoint though if nobody else could profit from turning it around then it's hard to see a bidding war coming. Some weird signs point to an acquisition attempt in January, not sure why if that fell through if it was real.

Seems like the math is there but does anyone know how a $5b revenue company would be valued on essentially $0 profit? Anywhere to look at this? Brain damage anon here, having a hard to time keeping all these things in mind without immediately forgetting them... My approach is, if we can come up with a simple valuation for. $5b revenue / $0 profit company, then we can start there and adjust for the sum of bbby's liabilities and assets.

But Icahn purchase seems directly contradictory to the GME purchase hopium. Only one could buy it, right?

Apparently "alternatives" were "explored". For a smart person, that means even surprising and unintuitive approaches to making money might be considered. So I think another way to determine if there's a real chance of Cohen/Icahn involvement is to consider whether selling at $30/share and then instigating or waiting for an eventual bankruptcy could have made Cohen more money too. But idk if there were any signs of that or what it might look like. But if there's a really weird looking way to do that and it seems unlikely, I think it would still be worth considering since Cohen et al would probably be smart enough to see a weird and indirect route. Imo you have to be indirect to make money nowadays because all the obvious direct routes will be taken already due to them being obvious.

I think with a leveraged buyout, a buyer might have up to 10x their actual cash in purchasing power too, so e.g. an acquirer with $400m may be able to pay as much as $4b by getting a loan.

Take $400m, get loan for $3.6b, buy for $4b, sell baby for $3b, turn bbby around and sell for $5b, repay $3.6b loan. Leftover would be what, $4.4b? So $4b profit? You wouldn't even need to keep the companies and integrate them into your existing ones if you could pull this off.
