What the fuck is going on with BOIL, it's almost at its 52 week low. Should I be slurping this?

>> No.55245111

I generally despise retail traders and here's why: They are typically short-sighted, antsy, undisiciplined gamblers just looking for their next hit. They have no respect or understanding of actual financial instruments and economic metrics, let alone any real knowledge of the strategic and tactical profession of a legitimate trader. No, retail traders tend to simply chase their next high. They see something pop off and think "To the moon!" and not "This is acting unexpectedly to the fundamentals in play, but I can still take advantage of this movement -- I must now hedge accordingly and monitor this security closely."

Boring? That's the way it should be. That's the way it always has been, that this is a gentleman's sport of skill and not merely a dance of chance. Ask these men, if they can be called that, for they behave no better than giddy childten racing snails: What does one do when they are in a profit? Why to them they continue holding! Holding until... it goes back down. No trading sense, no investor sense, this what we call nonsense. When you see one of these cretins boasting, ask them what principal were they working with, how many lots, what cost basis did they start with? What time horizon, what level of risk tolerance, what strategy? They return with a blank stare and a dumbfounded smile as if to proclaim silently "What are those? I'm just here to make money and want to talk about the next hot stock." Thankfully I can always be on the other side of their trades.

Here's a key reason Ford's fucked up. Just look at this. F-150 through the years; 1983 - 2020. Hint; By 2020 the F-150 is the size of a tank while the "old" models are the size of a current year Ranger. Plus uh you can actually fucking see out of the older ones better.

Extended cab works just fucking fine for boomers that need more space and that support a family. I don't have a box on my ranger xlt, so I have behind my seat to store stuff like extra antifreeze and stuff to get ice off windshield etc, ratchets and straps etc. However I bet they had to do away with that due to "safety protocols" that the fold down seats weren't safe enough for babies so they had to do the monstrous double door.

i am definitely not a fan of these new huge boxy front ends. both F and GM have turned into huge shoeboxes. i also think it is total fuckin bullshit that one can no longer get a Ranger sized Ranger anymore, and the S-10 went totally the way of the dodo. But you are exactly right on that the new rangers are essentially the old F-150s. fuckin clown world creeps into every facet.

i boughted $1.76 of BTC and $1.10 of DOGE just to keep the numbers and lines moving in the live mode at all times for the weekend. it is satisfying even when it's dropping because it's only pennies, but also interesting just to monitor what happens in real time on a weekend following huge shakeups in that "world". i might add little bits to it on significant drops too.

Sure, Yellen is slow walking the TGA and leaning heavily on bill issuance. I'm not worried about the $2tn in the RRP moving into that, I'm talking about main street lending activity.

Banks now have to pay customers 4-5%, while nobody wants to take out a 7% mortgage or 9% auto loan. And all the existing debt on their books is at post-COVID ZIRP rates. It's a situation that requires time or yield curve uninversion to unfuck itself.

AI will be the new DOT com bubble. Very clear that the market is pricing in a boost in productivity that won’t be realized for probably a decade for a lot of these backwards as corporations ran by mouthbreathers. That being said, companies that specialize in implementing AI solutions for these corporations are going to make BANK. Unfortunately, these probably won’t be publicly traded so you aren’t going to make money on them unless you start one or are a VC.

Easy money and removal of event risk. It's not even a "short the end of a Fed hiking cycle" because he'll hike in July.

Why? Why would the stock market rallye further? Isn't it already priced in? As with the BoC surprise hike. Have you seen the drop happening, because they thought JPOW could hike too? If we were at that level with priced in skip, why would we rallye further with a skip and not just stay there, if a hike would mean a drop? If there is a move, the skip isn't really priced in, but only the chance.

Theses are credit spreads for investment grade bonds and High Yield bonds

A credit spread is the different between U.S. treasuries and corporate yield.

It shows the risk/reward a bond relative to a zero* risk bond

Right now corporate spreads are still tight, showing little to no fear in buying corporate paper, but will widen if there a credit event.

Interesting analysis but not especially relevant. The original intent of the SPR was not to produce a long term profit, but to provide some insurance against another potential embargo like the 70s.
Nowadays, that cushion of extra storage is less necessary since our own domestic production + Canada is much higher and roughly balances consumption needs. There are still issues with location/transport, quality, and refining capacity that mean we continue to both import and export significant quantities of crude/products, but overall the balance is much better than it once was.

So on the whole I see nothing wrong with draining the SPR in general, just the political posturing around a fake profit.

i sure would love to grab me one of those watermelons, i had some of a really good and sweet one the other day, better than most you wind up with these days. herbs and spices brings to my mind trading ships going to and fro far away mysterious lands in days when there were still lands and peoples which were mysterious to each other. everyone ate the same locally available staples day after day, and having some way to enhance and varietize flavors was strongly desired and welcomed. i enjoy going to wikipedia and reading about the origins of certain herbs and spices and thinking about how they were very first discovered by their own local peoples, and then shared and spread between peoples from around the world back when sharing and spreading was far more difficult, laborious, expensive, slow, and rare. it's easy to take the ubiquitous availability of such a wide variety of herbs and spices for granted these days when WMT and KR have a whole section top to bottom just filled with MA bottles. that's why i wanted to hold some, so i could think about that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N81mlXMRSdA

plumbers get to set their prices because when they are needed, they are needed badly and everyone know they do work that sucks to have to do. there's no reason a 22 year old plumber can make really good money and increase it as he builds reputation. reputation is dang near everything. the other plumber that mi always had the reputation for "he's high but if you want your shit done right then he's the one you call". i'm not defending 4chan, i'm just telling you how shit is. i don't know, maybe it's different in cities because the faggot and nigger dynamics cause reversals of sense and functionality.

you should do whatever you think will give you the highest returns in accordance with your own risk tolerance. I am of the opinion you can diversify plenty within the realm of stocks without having to play other games you are unfamiliar with. At some point you might want to consider buying/opening a business, but that is probably in the millions.

>> No.55253804

If you go all in on stocks you'll be in pain during downwards movements, but if you hold you'll eventually be in profit again. It's people who are drawing down or will need to withdraw in the next 5y or so who need to diversify so they aren't forced to sell at a loss. If you want to live off of investments ($100k is nowhere near enough for that) then you can switch to mostly dividend stocks and some bonds and try to withdraw only the dividends/interest.

In growth phase (i.e. when they have a job) most people go all in on high risk stocks and ride the volatility.

It's not that far off, of course you need a bit of experience, but when you're there at least with my current job it's really like having a few meetings, and most of the work is about waiting for colleagues to answer questions or review your code, and because the time it takes to get anything done is so variable you can easily get away with giving a small fraction of what would be considered 100% effort. In fact I always complain that my job involves too little programming and too much communicating.

I live and work in Poland so my salary won't impress you ($52k/year gross which is typical for a senior embedded software engineer around here, but keep in mind the national average is less than $12k, paying $400/month for the rent is common) but the Silicon Valley equivalent would probably be 4x as much (and the rent there 10x as much). It's hard enough for companies to find good C coders that you can get away with asking for special accommodations on top of not working too hard, like recently my employers accepted that I would relocate to a smaller town 4 hours away and that I would work part time as B2B.

Wait, there's actual jobs in C?
I'm a software tester (pleb, I know), I never heard of C jobs browsing job offerings
It's be great to code in C I imagine, I know some Java and it's okay but there's so much boilerplate in how the language is set up

Oh, that makes sense
So you just tinkered around with embedded software as a hobby and learned C for a good amount of time, and then you got a job?
Did you learn any math as well, or was that not really necessary?

No, I had my own sort of business making audio software, then when I ran out of money due to sales not keeping up last year I decided to get a real job, and it was all about microcontrollers. I needed lots of math for the audio stuff but for embedded there's actually a shocking lack of math, my colleagues barely understand how floating point math works. Tbh they even lack any arcane knowledge about embedded stuff, the bar is just not very high. Embedded programming is definitely more about very basic logic.

I don't hate it, anon, and I don't dislike Java (although my experience is limited)
But I also messed around with Scheme/Lisp and that was very beautiful, much more beautiful than whatever you get with Java when you solve practical problems

Lisp is God's language, of course it's beautiful.
Common Lisp in particular is extremely practical as well. Would recommend for anything where you can get away with garbage collection.

Ill start,
I see the market as currently overbought, with the RSI (5 period) at 75.81 and the SPY just above last august highs. Mathematically speaking, a pullback or at least bearish consolidation should occur.
>FED MEETING
Im bullish on this, so I expect shecklestein to dump the market Monday and Tuesday before JPow absolutely sends the market up.

>My Play?
Im currently looking at fib retracements from our previous run up, plan on selling puts at the 61.8% retracement on the SPY (roughly 418) if we touch the 50 percent retrace (roughly 421). Although, I would honestly sell at any level if Monday and Tuesday are bearish because Jews love to carpet pull on FED weeks.
