Is it September when they officially resume? How much interest has accrued in the last few years? Will the debt slaves riot?
I have my popcorn ready

I think that's how the math works out. Are they doing retroactive interest? I thought that was a meme?

Is it just federal student loans that are re-starting payments? What about private loans? Have those payments been paused? I have no loans so I haven't paid attention to it.

You have no idea. A recent study showed that those with government loans (which were paused) took on more consumer debt (cc, personal loans, etc.) to replace the paused payments compared to their private student loan counterparts(were never paused). The kicker? Those with private loans who didn't have their payments paused had no rise in delinquencies during 2020-2023. The government absolutely FUCKED those with government student loans because they knew the little retards would go over leverage themselves. We're about to witness an absolute bloodbath.

I will be paying off the remaining $10k I owe the day before payments and interest start up again

No, my parents paid for my largely worthless education.

don't have any loans. paid for college completely with FAFSA because my dad was making like 20k/yr back then.

Here's what I'm wondering. Has the market just assumed that everyone has extra money the past few years?
Will student loan repayment at least put downward pressure on prices if people have less money?

I suspect they will use this upcoming student loan catastrophe the same way they made 2008 about real estate. There's a shit ton of things broken about the economy, but this will be the thing that sets the dominoes tumbling.

I hope for a bloodbath, but we've seen that the gov is willing to fire up the printer at the slightest hiccup of goyslop consooomtion.

If Shaniqua starts becoming delinquent on her used mercedes loan they'll just pause student debt payments again, or worse, just forgive them.

I just want to buy a 4x4 made this century for less than $20k ffs

I agree. While it might not actually be the precipitating event, it's a convenient narrative, and that's all that matters.

Shit I can't wait. I live in a very dense urban area and most of my neighbors (condo building) bought in the past 2-3 years and are all worried about their loans resuming.

Given the average age here is high 20s-low 30s, there are plenty of people I'd imagine who can't afford student loan payments on top of inflated or new mortgages. Deal season is coming
