I travel a lot but I can afford to because of my job and low outgoings (live with parents / no kids)

A lot of people have this mentality that travelling is about spending money and flaunting your disposable income.

I actually went on a few trips with people like this and its horrible. From now on I travel alone unless I have to. And I'll generally stay in hostels / cheap hotels to minimise the cost.

The other benefit of staying in hostels is it deterrs those "flash-packers"

This. Im a minimum wagie and last year went to Nepal for almost 3 weeks, and trekked into the himalayas for over a week on less tha 2k for the whole trip. You don't need tons of money to travel and have fun. Just a change of clothes, a place to sleep, and food.
