Its the trends in Tech, Corporations and Startups have networks of influencers and paid journalists to create hype trains, AI is "the current thing".
The reality is that tech has been in crisis since the dot com bubble, and to expand in funnel money into the tech ecosystem the corporations have to create "the new thing".
First it was social media, then payment apps, then it was crypto, then it was the metaverse, now its AI, its all for the sake of getting investors money exploiting the FOMO.

As for AI it was a thing in the 70s/80s, no one invested in it despite it made the same promises as today and applications remain the same, yes sure there are applications, but those application were possible thanks to affordable GPUs, AI accelerators are put behind a paywall so most likely the AI thing will last a year at least before there is a new thing.
