It's quite honestly hard to really say, but anecdotally from my own and other's experience I seriously believe that smartcon resulted in more people quietly stepping away than being introduced and joining/becoming a holder.
It's not like it was a true disaster. But more like getting your head dunked in water type of thing. Not that link is bad by any means. It's great. It's just that at least for me my expectations were so comically inflated that I honestly don't really get it.
It's like being madly in love with someone and thinking they're this perfect person that you want to spend the rest of your life with, but the more you see her without makeup, the more the chemicals wear off and you're left thinking much you'd rather be banging other women. I think many people feel this way and have left biz because of the insane cultist behavior here today. Nobody denies link is crucial for DLT but as an organization they have made some bizarre mistakes. Also marketwise, everyone thought LINK was special due to the uptrend against btc in 2018/2020. And then during the bull it turned out it was just like any other alt, more specifically one that underperformed. And here we are in 2023. It ''enabled'' trillions yet it has made no gains vs ETH and barely any gains vs BTC since mainnet release. And all that's left are a bunch of bagholders screeching into the void about an imaginary enemy. I imagine the sell pressure between $20-$50 will be gigantic, because many people saw their dream life crash before their eyes in 2021/2022.
