In America, this only works if you're living in Hawai'i. In any other state, the property taxes on your house will be tens of thousands of dollars, possibly even over $100k if you're somewhere shitty like NY. You can still buy a pretty nice house on Maui for $3m, though, so that's not a bad plan.
