The fact jobs will ask for experience and a degree for 20 an hour is why no one bothers to work, because the wages are pathetically low. I just lie to retarded recruiters now because you want 10 skills for a 20 dollar an hour job wfh you better be willing to accept laborers who only know the skill in the loosest possible fashion. It's all highly correlated with the S&P like probably 90% plus correlated. You need something market neutral like some kind of iron condor or maybe option calendar strategy right now since volatility is so low. As far as your stocks you may as well just go all in SSO and be done with it. If you want some "diversification" in equities then 20% SSO, 20% QLD, 20% SSO. Then with the remaining 40% of your money do some VIX trend following, maybe short VXX with puts, butterflys, etc. and go market neutral with the iron condors, the latter will be mostly uncorrelated with your stocks

pull some money out and deposit it with a different broker and do the options trading there. The problem with your portfolio currently is all equities everywhere are highly correlated. Zoom out on every major index worldwide and they all look practically the same. Only difference is US indexes mostly outperform. Even bitcoin is highly correlated with the S&P. Look at every major bitcoin dip and every major S&P dip over the last several years and see how much they line up. To truly diversify you need an asset class uncorrelated with equities and the most accessible asset available is market neutral option selling. Going forward stocks aren't likely to maintain the tailwind they had with ZIRP and infinite QE (current retard pump notwithstanding). Study up on it and get started is my best advice

No, you make money by being smarter than market beta. You do pair trades. Such as long MSFT, short GOOGL on a 1:1 basis. Or long SPY short IWM on a 1:1 basis. Long Japan short China on a 1:1 basis. This makes it so you are not just riding market beta up and down all the time. And if you only run 100% gross but net neutral, you can invest the cash in t bills.

thetagang shit is a great moneymaker if you do it right. I switch off between calendar spreads and iron condors depending on where volatility is. When the VIX is under 15 or so I do calendars otherwise IC. I sell 60 days to expiration and close when either I make or lose 50% on the trade. The reason you want som volatility with iron condors is they are vega negative. When volatility goes down the iron condor loses value which is what you want when selling. Therefore if you open the IC when volatility is really low, then vega has only one way to really go which is up and this hurts you. Calendar spreads are vega neutral which is why you switch to those when the VIX is at or under 15. Also only run your strat on highly liquid ETFs like SPY, QQQ, IWM, DIA, etc. that way the spread is tiny. This is important for multi-legged strategies. I'd suggest keeping your short legs with a delta of 0.15 or less. Higher than that and the body of your condor is too narrow

you are talking about some more advanced options trading. maybe i should finally learn about all that. the part of volatility made sense though, and i understand how it affects options. I was more thinking of finding a stock that sticks to its bollingerbands consistently and then selling either puts or calls depending on where the stock is at.
since you sound like you actually do this can you give advice on position size? say Im working with 30k and I want to grow it. you mention losing 50% so that obv. implies not using all of it. how do you divide it up? and also can i reliably grow from 30k or will i get wiped out one day? thanks for your posts.

i was doing something like that with leveraged etfs. i bought in when i thought it would move my way and take gains quick, like 1-3% gains. grew my account by a lot over a few months. problem was that I was wrong one day and lost a lot. so, is it easier with options to get that little bit of consistent gain without blowing up my account? what would you suggest I do to not fuck myself?

I'm about ten years into my white collar wagie career, and in that time there have been maybe 3 people who I'd feel comfortable talking about anything beyond basic pleasantries. No one talks to each other. I've had people on my team, working on all the same things, sit 20 feet away from me and not talk to them in-person for 6 months. One guy sat directly behind me on another team we talked maybe twice in 3 years.

>can you give advice on position size?
My suggestion is keep the max loss on each option trade at no more than 2% of your account size. Bump it up to 3% after you've been successful a while. So say you have a $100,000 account and you want to open an iron condor. 100000 times 0.02 is $2000. If the max loss on the iron condor is $500 minus $100 premium received so for opening the trade (so max loss $400) then you can open a total of 5 iron condors for that trade. In this instance you receive $500 premium so if the trade goes against you $250 or moves $250 in your favor then you close the trade since that's your stop. Never get into the habit of just riding the trade further as this will inevitably result in a big loss down the road. At most I'd enter into 3 different trades at any one time on different underlying ETFs and strike prices. All of these follow the max loss of 3% NLV rule. If you have 3 trades open and want to open another one, either don't or close one of the current ones first. If you open a trade on SPY and it starts to move around, wait until it has moved at least 4% so when you open a new trade the strikes will be in a different place. That way you aren't piled in on a single set of strikes in case the trade goes bad.
Remember, Iron Condors and option selling is a diversifying strategy. It isn't meant to be your entire system lest you become under diversified in that way. 80% of your total account value should be doing something else like long stocks, bonds or whatever else. The remaining 20% should be the reserve to ease your movement in and out of the iron condor trades. You can expect to make 15% to 30% a year on that 20% devoted to the iron condors when you git gud and it will be uncorrelated so even if stocks take a shit the Iron Condors will keep printing

I do tech support for server software (so our customers are sysadmins, not end users). My team shitposts constantly. We're composed of a combination of "retail and restaurant wagies who were too smart for that but underqualified for software engineering", and "compsci graduates who are too flaky and underachieving for software engineering".
We talk shit about higher ups, we shit on customers constantly, and we play vidya and ttrpgs on discord and stuff like that after work. I'm pretty sure at least half the team wakes up and logs in at 9am and then falls back asleep till 10:30 or 11am now that we're all wfh.
On slow days we watch youtube and play vidya on the clock. When we were in the office we had a vidya room where people would go to play smash bros and other stuff on breaks, and I routinely would play roguelikes and boomer shooters at my desk. My manager did the same, and would warn me when higher ups were going to be on our floor so I could look like I was working hard.

That being said, most of the department/company is pretty left-leaning so since you're on this board you'd probably hate it. Idgaf about politics beyond what makes my life more comfortable so I dont care :^)

Another thing I forgot. This is a bit subjective but don't open iron condors in a strong trend, especially at what looks like the top or the bottom. The price of the underlying if it's trending hard can easily just blow through your short strike and you wasted your money. Wait until the trend breaks or there's a nice pullback. I realize this is the most subjective part but it comes with practice

Look for jobs with titles like Technical Support Engineer, Software Maintenance Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer (although the latter is typically more hands-on sysadmin work).

This is a customer facing job though, you need to be comfortable with phone calls and remote sessions with customers, especially when you're at the associate level. I'm senior now so I only take like 3-4 calls a month and the rest is just case updates/emails with the customer.

Oh I should also mention the job can be very low stress some days, extremely high stress other days, like any IT job.
Day 1: Put in one case update, write a knowledge article, watch youtube the rest of the day
Day 2: At 9:30am get thrown into an urgent screenshare session with a customer because a $10mil system is down. You are not the subject matter expert on this issue, but the SME is out sick, so someone's gotta take it. You havent had a chance to review the logs, and the customer's VP, 15 managers, and 3 tech grunts are looking to you for answers. You can hear the agony in the tech grunts' voices as they have been up all night working on this. The manager keeps using a nickname you didnt ask for. The manager is very condescending to his tech grunts. You and the grunts both have a shared understanding of how shit this is. Every 20 minutes the VP, who wasnt actually listening to the call, interrupts you mid-sentence to ask, "So whats the status on the issue?" Someone named Pravish is working at 2am his time and never mutes, you can hear the indian car horns in the background. Kevin, the lead grunt, is smart, but exhausted. Despite being the lead, he's not sharing his screen; he delegates tasks to the guy who IS sharing his screen, some intern named Rajeev, who virtually never speaks.

You bang your head against the wall trying to figure it out. You think the issue might be DNS. (It's always DNS.) They pull in their DNS guy, who's a Chinese-American guy with a thick accent, or maybe he's a surly 45 year old named Dave who's been in this job for way too long and is way too sure of himself. He demands you prove that the problem is with DNS, but you dont know DNS well enough to prove it. Eventually the manager says "Dave, we dont know if it's DNS, but we dont know what it is. Can you please just check." Dave checks... if you're lucky, it's DNS! If you're unlucky, it's back to the drawing board.

Dave will stick around for another 30 minutes to offer his useless advice. Then he'll go silent for 30 minutes. The whole call is silent, because you're going through logs trying to find something, anything to explain the problem. They uploaded the logs to the case but refused to let you get off. Every 5 minutes a random manager will notice his laptop has been silent whlie he was making lunch or taking a shit, come over to the laptop, and ask for a status report. Kevin, resigned to his fate, will re-explain the issue every time.
>Do we have AnonTech on the call yet?
>Yes, he's been on the call for 3 hours.
>Oh, hey anon. So here's the issue we're facing...
>Yeah, no, dont explain it, I already am looking at it
>Ok. Yeah, so the issue we're facing is ...

A few minutes later, Dave chimes in. "Hey, can I drop?" 30 seconds of awkward silence. Kevin: "Yeah, you can drop."

Eventually, you find a workaround. Or maybe someone on some team who hasn't spoken in 6 hours pipes up, "Hey I found something weird... remember when we did maintenance last week?" (They never told you they did maintenance last week) "Well I found this config got changed...."

Or maybe you figure out it's a bug in the software.

You finally get off the call, the problem is either solved or at least in a half-working state with duct tape and dried cum used as glue. It's 4:30pm and you haven't eaten breakfast yet. You ping your manager. "I need to go eat breakfast."
You go masturbate, then eat breakfast, and watch TV until 5:57pm. You put a handover note in that case and log off before anyone can ping you questions about the issue.

Day 3: Put in one case update, watch youtube the rest of the day.
