I don't think the claims of BTC being numbered are too far-fetched. Cryptocurrency will survive but BTC is like the Ford Model-T. Everyone wants this new thing everyone is buying even if it's practical use is little, BUT there are upcoming cryptos that could have great real world application.

Ripple is shilled here a lot for a reason i'm not suggesting it'll pass bitcoin in price but market cap i think it will deffinately pass by the end of this year. BTC is like the gold reserve of cryptocurrency. Unwieldy and "difficult to transport" but because of this makes it a sort of crypto reserve currency.
