Still a bit of a newfag when it comes to bonds and fixed income securities. So for example, if this muni bond for Montreal has a bid yield of 4.17%, the buyers are demanding an APR of 4.2% per year over it's lifetime, while the sellers want to lose only 3.98%?
I understand spreads and how B/A works on other equities, but I guess bonds care more about the annual return since it's known ahead of time?

Forget about the yield, just look at bid/ask price. Buyers want to buy low (84.980), sellers want to sell high (86.054). Since the bond has the same 100 face value, the yield (to maturity) is the total return over the life of the bond, including coupon payments and return of capital payment at the end. Yield to maturity is not APR unless you are buying a 1 year bond.

The yield is higher if the bond is cheaper since you get the same 100 at maturity. So if you buy for 80 and get 100 back at maturity, that's a higher yield than if you bought at 90 and get the same 100 back. That's why the seller wants to sell the lower yield since they want to sell high. APR is a different concept entirety than YTM

I'm in my first year of investing/options so I'm really not the type to dole out advice. Maybe? We had a big run today so proceed cautiously. If we have some bearish divergence tomorrow, it might not be a bad idea to get them if the premium comes down. Ideally the best time to buy would've been this morning or late last week. One thing I've learned (the hard way) is to look ahead at the best time to purchase (>5te, 30dte, 180dte, etc...) really helps a guy out rather than trying to fomo in late.

At this stage, I'd say it's a 50/50 anon, whether it runs more depends on whether investors like their earnings report. By all accounts, the EPS and other factors aren't that remarkable, but the future is AI and people are looking forward. Bulls saw this giga-pump coming, regardless of whether the company was the most fundamentally sound.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was $60 EOY.

THE MARKET COULD GO UP, DOWN, OR SIDEWAYS. BULLS WILL BE LOOKING FOR MOMENTUM TO THE UPSIDE BREAKING KEY RESISTANCE. BEARS WILL BE LOOKING FOR MOMENTUM TO THE DOWNSIDE BREAKING KEY SUPPORT. CRABS WILL BE LOOKING FOR FALSE BREAKOUTS THAT RETURN TO THE CENTER. IF PRICE BREAKS KEY SUPPORT, PRICES COULD MOVE LOWER. IF PRICE BREAKS KEY RESISTANCE, PRICES COULD MOVE HIGHER. IF PRICE FAILS TO BREAK, IT WILL MOVE SIDEWAYS. TRADERS WILL BE WATCHING KEY LEVELS THIS WEEK FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Of course. She's already saying the refill will be 75% bills, 25% bonds. Just $50b in issuance would comfortably extend the X-date through to that June payment. And the RRP is a bunch of overnight cash earning 5% that could be lured over into 5.5% bills easily enough.

>Could you explain what an "at the money call" is?

Ok, I'll be nice today and pay it forward. An "at-the-money" call is a call option with a strike price that is currently where the underlying security is trading at. So if a stock is trading for $123.45, an ATM call would be $123. It's a little more complicated than that once you factor in "breakeven price" adjusting for the cost of the premium.

Not trying to be a dick, but you should really study watch videos, etc... to learn the basic fundamentals before you invest. I spent weeks on videos before I even made my purchase over a few dollars. It would be like me getting ready for basketball tryouts and asking what a double dribble is the night before.

I think the positive feedback loop between big tech and everything else is just getting started. It's bigger than just "meme stocks on a moon mission", it's a paradigm shift. Big ass companies are just going to lay off millions of people and use robots and AI to ultra-streamline everything, making shit tons of money along the way. Of course AI and tech rolls into national security so this is an all-out competition between superpowers. Trillion dollar valuations are going to become much more normal.

Watch NNFX's videos on YT for risk management.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=086ozcHDZPw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqWLFNpK6eg

Basically you only risk losing 2% of your account on any given trade. You look at the ATR of an asset and set your SL to 1.5x ATR, and TP at 1.0x ATR. If TP is hit, you sell half and move your SL to breakeven and let it ride. The idea is you have several small wins and losses that cancel out, and eventually you'll get on a winning trade that does 8, 10, 14%, which makes up most of your annual gains.

That's 2% of your account in losses, anon.
Look at TSLA for example. You get a baseline cross on May 5, buy just before closing, say 170.06.
You have $5000 in your account, you can only risk losing 2% of that, or $100. It had 7.50 ATR on that date, which means your take profit at 177.88, and cut losses at 158.33. You need to buy 8.90 shares of TSLA (say 9) to have the optimal risk for this trade; this would cost you $1513.
The trade worked out in our favor - it's currently up 18.3%. We would have sold half at our TP of 177.88. So we would have realized approx $31.28 profit, with another $155.50 unrealized (and a current SL set to like 193.34)

The NNFX system uses a baseline, two confirmations, a volume and exit indicator. It's a trend-trading system and relies on strong trade psychology and risk management. I'm also leaning into the quant side of things, but avoiding stupid trades and pacing yourself for the long run is essential

>> No.55137624

>>55137539
Stop losses and position sizing are a component of that. It also depends on your time scale and other shit too. Like, most trend trades are done well before 30-40 sessions, but some things like gold and metals trend for a very long time, while some equities can trend for just days at a time. You can eg, trade gold on the weekly charts, where macro becomes more important. But if you zoom out far enough, you'll want to be well diversified anyways.

No. The time for that has come and gone. Either fomo in bullish now or sit on the sidelines. Not being arrogant just real advice.

Covered calls are a good strategy, QYLD just executes it poorly. QQQ isn't a great security to use them with either since it's prone to steep, sudden jumps.

It’s not just retail, everyone is buying FANG because it is nearly impossible to avoid exposure to it if you own any ETFs.

I like to go for country etfs myself. I have my eye on Mexico, India, and China, in a 3:2:1 ratio. I will also trade the sector spiders as well.

That’s a lot better than blindly buying VOO. I think Mexico has a lot of upside potential, I’m interested in Vietnam too but I’d need to do some research.

I also have $800 on a meme to see how well it does, 1:1 JEPQ and SJB. The idea is that JEPQ goes up with the market and pays a (currently 11%) dividend, while SJB hedges the downside. Assuming they cancel eachother out, I should end up with approx 5-6% annual dividend. So far it's held for 2 months, but I want to see how it does during 6 months and during a downturn.

That's why you don't use QQQ in the first place use the Russell 2000 it's less volatile than QQQ and includes a broader range of companies compared to the NASDAQ 100.

I agree with the anon that said leaps puts on NVDA.
Of course, the entire market is overvalued at this point and I foresee SPY to 240 as well.

Separate from that, I noticed the 1m treasury went from 5.8% to like 4% since the debt ceiling seems good. There is still a peak in the 4-6m treasuries. So autumn/winter might be where the bubble pops.

Covered calls always reduce your gains. ALWAYS. It's not free money. And it's tax inefficient. Covered calls are only good for when you anticipate crabbing. And if you guess wrong, well oops you miss the biggest gains. Because the largest gains are VIOLENT.

How do you hedge against tail risk in general, anyways?

Meant to say over the long term covered calls reduce gains. They're not a do it all the time strategy.

By reading the market every day, basically. Even covid crash was foreseeable it didnt start crashing until after europe already had armed guards enforcing quarantines

There are usually warning signs that things are brewing, unusual options volume, geopolitical spookiness, etc.

You can buy protective puts, but idk they are a big gamble. pair trading could work too

I was looking at the mint ratio. I've had mild success with it so far. Not sure how to do position sizing for it, since it involves a short leg. Right now I have -120 SLV +15 GLD, which gives me about a $40 swing each day.
I do like the idea of quant trading the daily chart, but I have a lot of shit to figure out first.
