Daily reminder that we are in an (AI) bubble, even more disconnected from reality of the fundamentals of the economy both domestic and global, current and future, than at the peak of the bubble
>Daily reminder that AI will not save you from total consumer death
Daily reminder that we already have all time high record consumers living paycheck to paycheck; this is prior to student loan repayment resuming in August
>Daily reminder that the consumer cannot borrow more and have all tapped out their credit cards
Daily reminder that delinquency and default rates are rising sharply across all loans/credit
>Daily reminder that monetary policy lags by 12-18 months
Daily reminder that banks have completely collapsed in lending, both in the origination of loans, the tightening of lending standards, and the failure to roll previous loans
>Daily reminder that money supply growth has gone negative (due to this)
Daily reminder that we are seeing more bankruptcy filings by this time of year than anytime in the last 10 years
>Daily reminder that earnings and margins have been falling (sharply) across the board and that it is only ONE delusional CEO's guidance based entirely on nothing that has driven this entire market rally; a company that is now doing a share offering at the inflated share price as a result of this guidance
Daily reminder that not a single other semiconductor maker gave similar guidance - all gave the opposite
>Daily reminder that more banks will fail due to the yield curve remaining inverted longer than they anticipated and that the credit crisis is not over
Daily reminder that bank failures are not bullish
>Daily reminder that a Congressional deal will result in a government crowding out effect, as liquidity is drained for the issuance of T-Bills and bonds
Daily reminder that we are in full AI bubble mania, where there is a totally irrational, buy everything mentality - the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent [bears]

NVDA is top dog precisely because of their CUDA framework as several anons have said. The most common AI frameworks like keras, tensorflow, and pytorch all use CUDA for GPU acceleration which if you're training serious models you're going to use.

>>55129630
AMD has a cuda-esque framework called ROCm but I've never heard of a lab using AMD gpus in their setups (including industry labs). There are other non-nvidia cards that are used but not AMD.

-------------------------

People right now (in my opinion) are conflating training and inference. Most AI models do not need a GPU once you train them. I also think we will still just continue using an AI-as-a-service model which limits how many GPUs you need. It's not like we're gonna stick 4080s in every god damn edge device out there. You only need a GPU and CUDA when you're actually training a model which happens quite rarely.

How will AI generate profit for companies like NVIDIA? Is it possible for AI to already generate billions of dollars of revenue (NVIDIA assured us that AI will provide them with record 11-12 billions of revenue in Q2... they wouldn't lie about such stuff right?)
The underdog Intel, I know they have acquired some AI related businesses but how far is Intel when it comes to AI? They can't possibly compete with NVIDIA. Could they focus the AI on some un-tapped aspect of the market so they can at least get some market share?
Is AI bullcrap? Or is it actually worth the 500 billion dollar market value that has been added to NVDA?

Anyone who wants to TRAIN ai basically has to go through nvidia right now. However I think people are severely overestimating both how often AI is actually trained and how many resources it takes. I think potentially nvidias best play may be trying to do some multi-hardware supporting CUDA licensing ALA windows or something.

RE Intel: All hardware/software for training runs through nvidia.

AI is cool but people are misunderstanding it right now. It's going to replace a ton of HR/Business-esque jobs initially because it's really good at producing that soulless, lifeless text that they just pump out. AI companies will make money by curating specialized models and then making them accessible as a service and charging for usage.

So, OpenCL? There's a bunch of stuff like SPIR-V, SYCL, Vulkan, but most of that stuff moves slow and doesn't really go anywhere in term of uptake. WebGPU is a promising thing but probably can't touch CUDA for serious applications like training models.

I'm not entirely sure about that, I just know a bit about AI but nothing about sales. I'd be worried about chatgpt going rogue and offering weird sales deals you don't necessarily agree with and then you'd be held liable for. Setting up that tech stack would be trivial, it'd just be a challenge wrangling the models. Unless you were to fine-tune a salesman model in which case it'd be much more challenging.

>>55129765
the CUDA moat is really strong right now not necessarily because of CUDA itself but because the current deep-learning frameworks run on top of it. keras, tensorflow and pytorch all just default to using CUDA to run GPU shit which means it's easiest to just buy devices that support cuda. the average AI "programmer" has absolutely no fucking idea how cuda works, so they just have to use it.

Llama.cpp shows that you don't need NGreedia crap to have a well performing AI inferencing solution that supports multiple OSes and hardware platforms, esp. with their new OpenCL/CLBlast

That being said, for the love of god AMD, fix your shit in ROCM please, give us a proper platform/libraries/loader on Windows to target like we could with OpenCL in an idiot-proof manner.

They've got freaking Xilinx of all things who seems to make decent FPGA + AI acceleration tech, Nvidia's going to be shown up in hardware with AMD's ability to scale with GPU and CPU chiplets.

Ideally AMD will hit $150 again if they have anything decent to say at the AI event, and they keep shilling how good their consumer GPUs are value wise with the literally 0 generational improvement at the same price by Nvidia. I've been longing AMD since pre-Ryzen days and gradually sell shares between $100-150 for shits and giggles (new laptop/gaming desktop parts etc) or whatever.

AMD's finally slightly less undervalued considering how hard they can fuck over Intel if they put some of that Epyc $$ into grabbing more fab capacity, and Pensando networking stuff ideally lets them have a counter soon to all the new Nvidia networking, NVLink/Infiniband/New Ethernet connectivity that they were shilling for their GH200 supercomputer. Still, $400 a share for Nvidia isn't 2:1 stock price parity with AMD like it had been over the past few rally years, so either Nvidia makes it a 3:1, or AMD gets the attention it should while Intel just... cancels crap every other month with more delays, and spending all their money on financial incentives to OEMs so they will keep using their inefficient, mixed-core shitshow chips on the laptops

Debt maxing isnt really a thing anymore. Before you could get an actual low rate loan for investments. Now not so much.

But yeah my family has always been against debt and we got cucked for it. Probably could have bought 3 houses pre covid with interest and been fine but refused to.

it's just not a time to hold debt. it was during growth and just having capital put to work made you money.
now you'll hear alot about maintaining "working capital" and keeping cash at the ready. no company is counting on being bailed out and a bad recession could be the reason some ceo's get pushed out of their comfy spot.

if you want to debtmax, wait until the end of the year, when a recession is official, and when the government is giving away free money, is my viewpoint

Sounds good but do you know why in a recession people aren’t just debtmaxxing? Good luck finding a bank that will open a line of credit or give you a loan. Only people with very low Debt to Income ratios and high credit scores with strong cash flow are able to get them. That’s why most people can’t just go around buying up assets in a recession.
