I’m closing on a house today. Paying cash. Meeting with the lawyer in 2 hours and getting the keys this afternoon. I want to thank /biz/ for shilling the right things in 2021. What's a conveyancer?
I bought a 400k flat in France with crypto gains. I just sent the money to my bank account, the bank asked me for document, I sent them, then that was pretty much it I just had to find the flat, make an offer and pay through the notary.

So in the UK they do the AML multiple times? Sounds awful. In France the AML is done at the bank level. If you're paying from a french bank account the notary is not asking questions because the bank is supposed to have cleared the money already. Honestly I thought it was easier in anglo countries because our banks are very risk adverse but actually you guys have it worse.
