How are we supposed to survive when a simple meal like this cost $20.41? It's unsustainable financially

How many calories is that?
Why won't you try cooking on a budget? Vegetables are still cheaper than meat and both are cheaper than fully cooked food.

I grew up cooking for myself so I understand this differently than you do. You should start.

All they have to do is make simple stews+meals and know the times when meat goes on discount at the supermarket.

Truly ngmi.

I buy cheap ingredients for a stew pot and spend ~$50/wk for lunch and dinner, but I still have to bum off my roommates for breakfast and snacks (which I need to eat, or else I'll end up eating to large a portion for lunch and dinner and blow my budget) and drinks (which I water down to save). I used to be able to buy all of my food off that money, though.
