fiat doesn't work because bitcoin nearly entirely controls the fiat price of all alts. you could use eth, but that's also too volatile compared to btc although it has settled down since the last bear.

there's nothing else other than btc when you're looking at the true performance of an altcoin, especially when it's also the least risky of them all there's no excuse to not be comprehensively outperforming it on nearly all time scales. if not, dump it and move on. there's a never ending supply of alts to choose from, no need to be left with ancient under performing ones.
