Avalanche bridges have never been hacked and they do not rely exclusively on SGX for security, it's an additional layer and most SGX exploits revolve around having physical access to the actual machine.

Does ICP communicate with blockchains that its own nodes do not participate in the block production/validation of? The answer is yes and that is the basic definition of a bridge. ICP does not use an intermediary relayer, in the sense of nodes that are independent of the IC side of the bridge, this is true but that's only because A) the entire network is 100% permissioned like any other bridge technology's validators are and B) ICP assumes that if a message from one subnet to another is signed by the majority of nodes in that network, it's by-default valid and is accepted by every other subnet. The ckbtc subnet has 28 nodes but these are assigned by the NNS which Dfinity controls. Additionally approximately 80% of the nodes in the IC network are run by 8 or so entities. Hacking the subnet would only require 66% of the nodes to be compromised. You also have to KYC to use it because it basically is pooling BTC kek. ICP can keep up with BTC and ETH because they're slow. Avalanche or really most other POS chains going at full tilt would absolutely swamp ICP.
For comparison the Avalanche BTC bridge has 8 wardens which are fully doxed, public, independent entities. Every transaction requires 6 of 8 wardens to agree or 75%. The same user address controlled by their personal private key alone is used on both BTC and AVAX networks so there is no concern for KYC or Tornado cash like situations with ICP.
