Basically no one is using Chainlink Functions. I've been messing around with it for a few days now, and the subscriptions are done in ascending order. During the masterclass which was over a week ago, the subscription ID they used was in the 900s. I have been using it for days and literally no one else has used it in that time besides me. I did subscriptions 1029 and 1030 today.

Why is no one using this service...?

https://automation.chain.link/

They're developing shit without validating a need. Classic inexperienced team problems. Kind of surprising because their head of product had a legit background.

Maybe they're developing for a very small group of clients who are not yet actually on the network? That's the only reasonable excuse I can think of. Big banks or whatever the fuck just waiting in the wings for it all to come together.

errr why are you making additional subscriptions retard?
you can just add your new contracts to an existing subscription with "functions-sub-add"
also the subscription number is just for that network, it's on three testnets currently

I’m retarded and pretty new to this. I’m just trying to use Functions to make an API call in my project but having difficulty figuring it out. Can you help?

I want to be able to make a call to a GPS API. I am testing it by parsing the coordinates of San Francisco, but I just keep getting some meaningless hex value returned and don’t know how to get a meaningful response. It’s not as simple as I was hoping despite walking through the tutorials.

>> No.55016709

what is your project trying to do?
what is the return you're getting from the api normally?
here are some good examples:

I normally just get an API response and pic out the coordinates. I want to have it plugged into an app that gets the user’s current position

>>55017147
Basically I’d like to get the user’s current location with functions, scale the coordinates so I can pass the lat/long as uint256s to an existing smart contract. I have an application that already does this, but the SC’s function is called by the logic in a JavaScript app. I’d like the JavaScript app to make an API request (to mapbox) using Functions and have the response be passed as a parameter in a smart contract function.

I’m not really sure how I’d set that up as all the examples I see just use some JavaScript script to make a Functiona call and return something to the terminal…

Bumping from a different IP as I’m hoping someone can provide an example of someone doing something similar to this. Or of someone returning coordinates data with functions at least.

To be more clear, my App.js gets the users location via a mapbox API call and uses the returned coordinates to call a smart contract function (let’s call it startingPoint(uint256 lat, uint256 long). I want to instead have App.js trigger a Chainlink Functions call to get the user’s current location and to have the value returned from the DON directly trigger startingPoint() so that the DON is calling the SC function instead of my application.

I also have App.js perform a distance calculation and would like to possibly have that done in a DON, but first would just like to get the startingPoint() issue figured out…

right so what functions is allowing you to do is to run that js on a don
when you say it's just returning it to the terminal... no showing the output from the don that the sc would recieve
check your testnet transactions too, the output will be shown there
your next step is here:
https://docs.chain.link/chainlink-functions/resources/add-functions-to-projects
you need to integrate a consumer contract

people are just too dumb to develop stuff on chainlink
chainlink is too smart for this world of low IQ retards

I stopped at the initial beta tutorial because developing software does not make me happy anymore since my burnout despite this being my best and most valuable skill...

It seemed to enable completely new use cases through this added layer of privacy and control which improved on the interface between the world and blockchains.
However I struggled to find a business use case for its use for someone who does not already have a running company.

This seems very valuable for existing companies, but there should be a way to make it by being the first to develop something new with it.
Unfortunately I can't find how to do it and lack imagination.

It's a bit strange to see the lack of interest in this feature. Maybe others have the same issues to see how to use it to enable new use cases?
