I figure we don't have a thread for gig/app drivers, which is funny because it's basically the perfect neet "job", literally can decide not to take any orders, sit in your car all day being anti social and driving in the middle of the night, have no boss, social interaction is very limited aside from saying "brad", picking up the food and saying have a good day

Man I have been saying this for YEARS on these boards. Uber/Doordash etc was literally made for the kind of fucked up autistic incels that haunt these boards. No set schedule, no boss, no minimum amount of hours you have to work. Just make a little money on your own schedule whenever you want with no pressure. I have made at least a quarter million from this by now. And actually my accountant told me one of her other clients cleared 100k last year from uber driving alone. $30 hour is easier when you run 2 or more apps or live in a high cost of living place where driver % and tip add up to more. Big city America is peak tipping culture. Only remotely worthwhile in America where your immigrants are Mexicans that do gardening work and your Indians work in tech companies. In Australia (and I'd imagine Canada and UK) there are shitloads of Ranjeets these days. They both scam the fuck out of everything (meaning you have to stoop to their level to compete), while also being content making half of what McDonald's pays. Also cars are toxic environments to sit in. There are filled with flame retardants and other off gassing chemicals, it's genuinely bad for you. Your post sounds right and there are even more reasons it should work for /biz/ guys but the reality is it just doesn't. Driving and delivery are basically offshored jobs at this point. They only pay enough if you plan to retire in India.

No, the pay is abysmal when calculated by someone with a decent IQ. First let's look at what maccas workers make. Obviously we take the casual adult rate from here because the permanent rates include paid leave and you have to be older than 20 something to drive Uber. I couldn't find more recent rates so already these are 2 years behind so you could add at least a few percent yourself. A big thing people forget about is super. From this July the mandatory employer contribution is 11%. Uber does not pay super, you are supposed to do it yourself out of your massive Uber earnings. Superannuation takes total earnings for the lowest rung of fast food employment to $31/hour on a weekday. On the weekend that becomes $37. Also they get paid breaks every few hours. You don't even get paid when you're driving to your passenger on Uber. Next I will discuss Uber pay.

To give you an idea of Uber earnings this is something Uber sends me every weekend to "entice" me to drive. It varies week to week from about $30 to $38 and probably most often $35. Last week was $34. These are the "prime times to drive" for earnings. They are also the worst times in history to do any work, let alone public facing work, let alone strangers in your vehicle work. Any other job has high loading pay at these times. For Uber, $32 gross is your loading pay. And the gross bit is more important than you think because you get murdered with expenses driving Uber. First up you pay 10% of your gross to the government in GST. Poof that's gone. The fuel cost will be about 5% if you're driving a hybrid and driving it efficiently. Probably double that for most people. Maintenance likewise budget 5-10% of your gross. The upfront cost of the car is brutal. I think I calculated it very conservatively at about $3/hour if you drive a decent amount of hours and more if you don't. You'll pay at least twice that to rent. Then there's insurance + extra rideshare insurance, registration fees, rideshare registration fees, background checks and more. Thousands per year. You should also count the times you need to get fuel - those are like the opposite of the paid breaks at fast food. Also fines. They're inevitable when you're driving all the time and they wipe out days of work every time you get one.

You don't make money with Uber, you lose it. Some people think "I'll drive Uber with my new car since I'll have so much to write off it will be a tax free income". What income? You realise even earning back the fees for your government accreditation will take you a retarded amount of hours. You also realise it's not as flexible as you thought. If you try and drive at the wrong time you'll gross $10/hour.

I'm telling you in America it's different. You don't have the same immigration trends as the rest of the Anglosphere.
