There is some value for it if only to utilize it for its antimicrobial properties. Throwing some silver in water will keep it fresh longer, and I just personally like silver (and platinum) more than gold.

I think that America is pretty fucked for numerous reasons. The current monetary system allows us to run MASSIVE trade deficits totally $700BN annually that we are able to leverage into massive amounts of GDP, jobs, taxes etc. If that collapses then so too will our economy just completely stall out and crash, albeit temporarily. A massive debt jubilee would commence I would imagine.
It's pretty frightening to think about all of the ways that this monster can implode, but there is no way we get by unscathed. I think people who think they have insurance, pension, SS, etc will be sorely mistaken.
