Their hardware is the cheapest to produce among their competitors exactly because they can get away with doing their own thing and amortize over longer periods of time. They also sell their own hardware exclusive titles for full retail $60+ and rarely ever need discounts to generate sales. Their fans are incredibly loyal and let Nintendo shit all over them frequently, yet they always come back for more.

The Switch is also a handheld which Nintendo has had zero trouble ever selling. Even having been released during the mobile boom, the 3DS sold 75M units.

In addition, the Switch is the first console since the GB was released that has ALL of Nintendo's development power focused on a single platform. They'll be fine maintaining their customer base.
