Tools, tips and guidelines?

Personally, I'm not an interesting person so I keep to myself or outright ignore others. I've noticed others who don't want to interact socially generally softly reject and keep their distance.

Is networking a cure-all, or does it depend on personality? Where is the line of socialization between those who share something in common, versus excluding others from networking opportunities.

Generally my stupid approach to networking has been:
>Get good at something
>Meet talented people who are working in something only tangentially related to you
>Have a good time hanging out, even if it's just a semi retarded dinner or event
>Later one of you will need the other and since you've hung out you're happy to chat

It's important to do the tangential thing because then you're a big fish in a small pond and will be remembered.

If you're a lawyer talking to other lawyers, hoping to join a firm that's generally low yield. But if you're a lawyer hanging around VC people, good idea. A website developer around political candidates, good idea. Media guy hanging around startups, great. If you try for a niche then people are automatically going to be more accepting. Hell if you make videos of people's farms that'll be good.

They certainly haven't been fucked over in the same way by the state as we have, and you can even justifiably say that they had a hand in their own current predicament. Many are mean about it. They've caused many of us a great deal of suffering too. We have done the same, in different way, but I'm not disputing the facts, the facts are what they are.
But try to imagine that you're not involved in literally any of this, that no woman has ever or could ever hurt you. Just as thought-experiment. You're looking at these "humans", maybe in Sim City, and you see that they need each other for reproduction, child-rearing, companionship, and it's worked that way for tens of thousands of years, if not more. A happy little sim-community. It's not perfect, but by and large, it works. Then they start trying to fuck over each other as if they were opposing tribes in a war, despite being essentially dependent on each other. Just imagine you're seeing this happening in Sim City. You would recognize this is as a collective madness. Of course, IN Sim City, they wouldn't recognize it as madness, it'd make complete sense to them, apparently.
