first people want way more than 100usd/day, and it's where they start fucking things up big big time. To be fair it's normal to want more and there is way to more to retrieve from an intraday chart, but beginning to curve drastically the greed for 3 or 6 months is really the only way to learn and have decent daily earning later on. Once the skills to get a good margin is developed, increasing the volume allows to get a few more buks per day, like rising to 300 or 400usd easily. That works because retailers should focus on liquid assets.
Another mistake by retailers is they let their loses run and they never ever take profit.

Second people go straight to options and cfds and stocks, whereas those are super crappy. And for stocks they trade penny stocks, some crappy GMe and so on. Wtf.
The only good assets for retailers are
1/ liquid assets
2/ assets with enough magnitude intraday
This leaves basically indices and forex. Forex sucks due to the huge risk by the broker.

Third, retailers think they can daytrade in dilettante, like 5 minutes before their wageslavery and coming back at the end of the day. That's really not true on the intraday chart. On the opposite behavior, they watch the chart 12h/day and they don't understand that they are at their best really 1 or 2hs/day. Europeans can get the london and american open and american close so they get lucky to choose which part of the day to focus on. But the american retailer has basically only the american open and this open is super crabby and they get fuck easily.
Plus american retailers are infatuated with options and that's a just a bad instruments to start trading.

Fourth, retailers hate demo trading, or trading with microlots, whereas they have no experience. Demo trading for 6month is a necessity. It seems long, but in trading 6months is really short. And there is so much to learn on emotions on mentality it's barely enough.

As far as stocks vs indices, yes, the general assumption is you go with a total market or total US or S&P 500 type index where losers are dropped and winners are added regularly. You also want something with the tailwinds of economic growth and at least steady inflation. DCAing the Nikkei or Venezuela's stock exchange is....not ideal.
