I've been observing it for the past year or two. Crypto has little real world utility for most people, so crypto bros have to pour millions into spreading promises of wealth to get people to buy it. Look at all the celebrities and influencers who were paid to promote it, for example. Furthermore, the crypto community actively discourages criticism (aka "FUD") because it can lower the value of their shitcoins. Even after years of tireless promotion, crypto STILL hasn't truly achieved mass adoption.

Unlike crypto, AI at least has lots of potential practical applications. Or at least people appear to think so, given the speed of ChatGPT's adoption (100 mil users in 2 months).

as for profitable AI investing? microsoft and nvidia are involved in AI, their stocks are now partially contingent on the success and expansion of AI tech. Except that their stock value is so damn high, there's very little ROI. We want to see an AI investment bubble where you throw money at a random thing and you see a 1000x. Until that happens, crypto/stocks remain as The Current Big Thing™
