>> No.54617798

I have a huge peace dollar collection but I get super bored seeing endless 1922 and 1923 coins. 1927 and onward we're minted in the low millions, and the 1928 only has like, less than 300k minted.

Just saying, peace dollars are fun to collect and valuable ones are easy to spot. If you see a deal on a really nice dollar 1927+ just buy it. Same with the 1921s but those start at 100+

I am not sure about central Texas, I know there are a few hard rock mines close to the Mexican border, as well as placers on the Llano and Brazos Rivers. Do some researching! Check the local archives or use the website Mindat to find locations. Generally in Texas, gold has been fairly small, but there are a number of rumored discoveries from the early 1800s and even back to the early settlements that had big gold, up to a quarter pound or more in quartz ore. Many of the stories bring up a "blue quartz" which is very interesting.

I don't mean long term, I mean short term.
Last year it was a little higher than it was now, although you could potentially blame that on the Russian-Ukraine conflict. However in April of 2011 it was something like 40/oz.
Aside from those two times / times around those two dates, it's as high as it's been. There are a lot of things happening around the world and I have every belief that a lot of the current demand is due to panic and uncertainty.
Long term it's a good hold, but short term remains to be seen. There will potentially be amounts sold back as people see it goes down, afraid of losing their investments, there will be more mined and minted, sating the standard market demand, etc.
Also, what should be said, is that putting your money into PMs should not be seen as "investing", but rather "capturing the purchasing power at the time of conversion".
Stock market and Land have both been historically better "investments". It's an entirely different mindset for metals, beside the, you know, main reason: shiny

etc.
When the dam eventually breaks, yeah, you will definitely want it over crypto or fiat or stocks. And I readily concede in such a situation no one will really be able to say what will happen. Tarnishing happens when exposed to sulfur in the air. Leave it, it's a natural occurence and it protects the rest of the silver, tarnish is not rust and won't affect the weight, but scrubbing it will remove it and destroy it's "collector's" value, as well as lower its melt value i.e. weight (albeit to a small degree).
Also plastic flips contain PVC which reacts blah blah and leaves residue on coin, take it out of those. If you want to preserve them and the shiny, put it in an airtight container, or get some silver cloth that absorbs the sulfur before it reaches the coin.

I don't want to bother looking up the sizes myself, it's your collection so I'll leave it to you, but I would get tubes to put them in. Said tubes also seal to be as airtight as you can reasonably expect to get without doing anything over-the-top. They're sold at most coinshops or bullion-selling-websites, rather than ordering them specifically just tack them onto an order. I would only get a coin-specific-capsule if it's a special coin, be it collector's value or sentimental (a gift from someone, your first coin, whatever). And again I would stress that the coin changing color because tarnish does not decrease it's value insofar as melt value goes. It does for collector's appeal.
Said tubes typically hold 20 or 25 coins each.
I know for sure the ASE use their own tube size different from standard rounds.
>but anon! I have only 7 ASE! and 15 brits!

I don't think so. It is branding/marketing and them capitalizing on their excess capacity to create assays. Yes. I see people getting hyped in these threads and it's great, but even here, people are not really accounting for just how real this shit can get very quickly if it isn't stopped, and the magnitude of what is coming. Gold tries to price-in fiat's death, simple as that. For it to do that, it has to go well beyond the 3k the banks are now grudgingly admitting, to more like 10k+. This 1700 to 2000+ move? Nice, but not the main event.

In 1980, Volcker stopped it by allowing a painful recession and restoring confidence in monetary policy. Odds on this happening again... once in a silver nickel?

In 2011, they "stopped" (i.e. delayed) it by deploying Operation Paperclip assets in a scheme to empty Fort Knox, now well known as the COMEX shuffle. Something many don't yet appreciate: JPM were not breaking the real set of rules. Au contraire, they are doing precisely what they were TOLD to do by government, and this is why they had been untouchable!!!

Well, the COMEX shuffle risky scheme is unraveling. Default seems as imminent as the social security lockbox. JPM fall-guys are facing charges. Somewhere, some fed glow-n_words are quietly losing their sheeeeeee-it at the thought that this is all going to unwind on their casio watch.

Their big plan to stop it this time? So far it seems to be: lean on their media mouthpieces to FUD, and pay some shill to gibber nonsense on pmg (good work if you can get it, I guess).

I say this every day, but the magnitude of the bond market is what is propping up the global paper-ponzi. Once you try to account for a transference of resources in many multiples of the global GDP you basically can see the gaping black hole of resources that will eventually be monetized. The trick is to be able to understand where all of these leverage is sitting and do everything you can to get away from it. Stocks can go up and down and no one is damaged unless they are trading on margin. You just internalize your own losses. However, bonds need to be paid or else real losses are actualized. And given the nature of the bonds and the people who own them, lots of economic carnage will follow in their wake. A $46TN stock market is PEANUTS in the face of a $46TN bond market. One can collapse and it will be a recession. The bond market on the other hand will cause severe economic dislocation.

>platinum worth stacking a single oz
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I bought one ozt of Rhodium back when it was $1100. It went up to $30k. Who knew?
But no, I don't really expect Pt do do any such thing. But I have two sacrificial bars just in case of a good pop. The rest are because I like the designs.

I know there's panable gold in the Potomac from watching hobbyist youtubers with small scale sluices. I bet the Ohio or whatever is near you has some too.

could this actually end up being the big attempt to demoralize via tamp down?
it's not something I predicted, just saw others doing so in the thread

Damn, it's at $7800 right now. I probably would've sold when it was almost touching $30k lol. I've been debating some platinum coins just for fun but, I'm still a wagie. It does seem pretty undervalued though and those 2023 looks are decent looking coins.

If you're one of the biggest vendors in your industry and demand is up, premiums are up, and you're having trouble with manpower just to process current orders, it's not a bad decision. Long term it may cost thema little biz if regular customers find other vendors, but shorter term it's literally just maximizing profit. I'd be real curious to know their mean average order price, but I'm guessing it's close to $500
