When eagle premiums were 10%, 20%, and then 30%, people said what you are saying NOW. And they were WRONG. And the difference today is not 2x. It’s 50% more. If you have the ability, visit a local range and see what you like.
I have several shotguns, el cheapo turk pump, 70s or 80s semi auto duck hunters, and a dedicated over under worth more than my car.
If you want an all in one, get a longish barrel Mossberg pump. Longer barrel because most skeet or trap ranges won't let you use it if too short. Ranges vary. 22 inch is the sport minimum if memory serves.
You'll probably get 12 gauge which gets old quickly at the range but the ammo is generally more available. 20 gauge is very serviceable and easier on a full day of shooting.
Leaning skeet with a pump is much more difficult, but pays better dividends long term. If you can afford the auto loader get it.
Turkish autos are hit or miss, no pun intended. They're also less customizable.
Ideally you'd find an older Remington semi auto. They fit almost anyone and have plenty of custom support.
Fair warning: you might end up like me and spend too much money turning clay pigeons to dust.

The more you use it, the less it tarnish. If you use the same silver fork/spoon daily, it will never tarnish for example. It's if you let it rot on the shelves that it requires upkeep, but even then, we are speaking about once every year or so to keep it really shiny. Silver love to be used, it wants you to handle it, and reward you for doing so by staying shiny and keeping your mouth free from bacterias.

Really depends on what you intend to use it for. My do-all gun is a remington 870 police magnum, from a local police trade in. I got it for $350, but it was a '92 model back when Remington was still doing good stuff. 18 inch barrel is handy and great for home defense, and 5+1 capacity is all you should need for a shotgun. I shoot skeet on BLM land, so I don't have to worry about barrel length. I find anything 20+ inches to be too cumbersome anyway. Get a mossberg 500, Maverick '88 or Remington 870. They're the most modular and reliable pumps on the market. Stay away from the turkish stuff, and only get an autoloader if it's a mossberg 940, Beretta 1301, A300 patrol, or Benelli M3 or M4. Get a weapon mounted light on it, a surefire DSF870 or TL racker. Get a velcro shell carrier on the receiver. Get an esstac shell holder and spend the rest of your budget on a variety of target loads and buckshot. Take it out and pattern your shotgun, then practice reloading a shit ton. The most important thing will be your first shot, so practice getting a shot center mass at 10 yards from a low ready position. Shotguns can be a great tool if you know how to use them.
