silver has two prices. Spot (driven by many factors) and premium (driven by consumer demand on a specific type of silver). Premium is driven by consumer bullion demand, spot is driven by overall market/industry/jewelery/bullion demand etc. (a larger market). Consumer demand is at very high levels right now, which is forcing high premiums. Spot may continue to increase, but that isn't entirely determined by the consumer bullion market. Premium for the most part IS determined by the consumer bullion market, which is racing right now. My argument is that ASEs are not currently a good buy because one of the two prices is at a high point. Expecting premiums to continue to track at double spot as spot rises doesn't make sense. Gold premiums are also up very high relative to what they normally sit at because of comparably increased demand, but AGEs are sitting at like 5% premium. No one is going to pay 100% premium on a $2000 coin. As spot rises, premiums will not continue tracking linearly like that because consumer demand will fall proportional to spot increases. People aren't going to be scooping up tubes of 20 rounds when each round is $100.

I own silver. One thing I can't shake though. If Silver headed to 500 dollars an ounce, and the global economy is dependent on manufacturing, and manufacturing suffers due to the silver shortage, and we all depend on the global economy for food, then wouldn't we be screwed if it increases significantly?

I would be way more in silver, if I knew that we can just start mining more when industry starts to realize the shortage, OR if I could get to understand to what degree the sectors of the economy I care about really depend on silver. It seems like the best case is that companies can just up their mining operations with new investments in a shortage, so there's a period of huge price inflation of silver, followed by a dump of the silver price.

I get most of my PM's locally. I shop around at a few shops but you can find pretty good deals on stuff not to much over spot especially if you got a good relationship with the owners. If you are worried about counterfeits you gotta acid test or sigma it but that is damaging/real expensive to get. Local shops if you can find a good one have names to uphold and if they get blasted for burning someone they will go down pretty pretty fast. I think I paid $5-10 over spot for some gold dos pesos. Just do some more homework on your local area and find a cool spot or be trapped by online fees and possible tracking of what you get.

I think government coins are a little better security feature wise (particularly the maples and brits), but an asahi round isn't going to be "more valued" in industry just because it doesn't have some globohomo country on it

I’ve been right so far. Even as you and others said 30% premiums were ridiculous…buy buffalos instead. Now they are 60-80% and there is NO sign of it slowing down as long as silver spot keeps going up. Since everyone here thinks silver spot will go up, I will be proven right. I think you massively underestimate the demand on the eagle. Average people, but especially rich people, in desperation, will scramble to buy eagles. They aren’t buying asahi bars or buffalo rounds. When the big money pours in, eagles will be SOLD OUT…..like last time. Here is the best part…..if I feel like eagle premiums are topping, I can sell and buy cheap generic or gold! I’ll have a much larger stack. But irrationally hating on eagles and having missed out on the gains must really irk you.

My local shop -as their official policy- sets their prices to barely undercut JMbullion.
They're nice enough personally, but financially they don't budge on that.

I'm saying there wouldn't be that massive of a split, going off mining numbers and how much we use by industry the silver value itself will over take whatever resell premium he is banking on. Only really numismatic and perfect examples will hold that higher premium but generic ass eagles/whatever private/govt wont matter as much.

I go to 2 places in town mostly. The one I buy bulk from is cool and I have a good repour with him. The other shop is a family friend and I buy whatever he puts aside for me and usually only goes a couple bucks over spot but he moves alot of stuff and doesn't always have as much as the other guy.
