It isn't about "not wanting to work". It's moreso that people are seeing söyciety for what it truly is. Futureless. Whether that be climate change, lack of a female partner, or becoming a minority in one's own country. It isn't just the fact that they'll never be able to retire from wages. I'm sorry to say but thats a cope. Companies don't reward loyalty, that's true. But that just means you need to job hop every couple years or so for more pay and career growth.

Houses are expensive, but if you can quit being a consumer you can save enough for a house if you make saving a priority. Live with family if you can, get room mates if you rent, get your income up, live a simpler life don't spend on unnecessary goods, find pleasure in simpler activities that aren't expensive. Move away from HCOL areas, live in cheaper cities.

Online dating does suck, but you can make it work if you try. Use services with lots of info on profiles, not tinder. Use a service that lets you message people or send previews without paying money. Find accounts with genuinely interesting people, tell them they are interesting and why, engage them on topics they care about on the first message. Act like you are just chatting with a friend. Arrange an IRL date as fast as possible because you want to get to know them. Pick the date location so they can't be indecisive. Have an open mind about the sort of person you want to date. You are single, you don't know what you want or else you'd already have it. Do this enough and you will find a suitable partner.

Or you can be a broke and sad forever and never make the changes to get where you want to be.

I'm 30 and feel this way. That being said I'm not so disillusioned that I think I should get anything for free or be miserable for misery's sake. I just treat my work as purely transactional, providing a service in return for a paycheck. I agree with >>54563215 in that most of these supposed norms are just really gay and desu I wouldn't associate with most of my coworkers if not for us working together.

Separately but to the same point - I don't actually find most industry to be all that interesting or exciting. I feel like in decades past people were excited about pursuing their professions and would invest in their development within that field, but because most of us are focused entirely on the money that aspect no longer exists. It doesn't pay to do this either, because entire professions get flipped on their head within weeks so you have to be highly adaptable.

On top of those considerations, I do really well financially making around $240K annually. My parents never cleared more than $60K but were able to buy a big single family home in an awesome, safe neighborhood with a pool and back yard, always had 2 cars, plenty of food, health insurance - you name it we had it. On the other hand, I'm unable to afford a home in these same areas despite clearing 4x+ their best year. When working hard and scaling your income produces only mediocre results, the incentive to continue working hard is removed. Again I'm not some commie retard who is going to quit, but I've really struggled with busting my ass to get to such a high income and not being able to afford even standard middle class norms from 15-20 years ago.

I'm pushing forward despite all of this, but give me a fucking break here people.

I have been saving and trading since 2020, so I have enough to get a $350k house now in Phoenix. Durring crypto mania in 2021 I made a sensible gain and got out before it could crash. I cook at home to save, I only buy games on sale, all our stuff in the apartment we get from swap meets and Offerup. I utilize credit effectively so I have been able to cultivate a 770+ credit score in these past 3 years. It is a lot, but take it one day at a time. I am not very smart or a chad, I am a 5'5 manlet. Any time my wife gets down about the world or horrific parenting decisions of other kids I remind her, the worse every other child does, the more exceptional ours becomes by default. Every failure of a human being at work drives up the demand for me, and in turn my leverage in promotions and pay rises.
I struggled and thrived. I may not have started with anything to my name in the way of family or money, but I did luck out with charisma, looks and streetsmarts. So I don't judge too harshly those without an edge at all. Survivor bias is too easy a trap for criticizing corpses.

You will not call on weekends. You will not hold over 2 interview rounds to select candidates. You will not fire employees for atleast a year after hiring them. Your profits will suffer, your market share may not rise as exponentially as you want it to, your service will not be the 24/7 well oiled machine you aimed for it to be, your clients will not have the optimal post sale service they were deluded into believing just to avoid their tantrums. Was it a requirement though or was it something extra that was expected of you that didn't have much to do with what you were expected to do at first? There are cases where people expect the workers to do more than what was agreed to, sometimes it can lead to a raise or something similar. Other times it can lead to a better relationship between the people working, something that if you were to be critical, probably doesn't really mean shit. I'm not sure if it's exploitation to do something you didn't really agree on from the beginning, or if it's about being versatile and an employee that has more value.

Sure, I need to work on myself more (perfection is an endless road), but I'm good looking and the fact I'm having issues means there is a big big problem in that system. Love goes a long ways. It makes people do stupid stuff and brings hope when there is none. Every generation has gone through extreme hardship at some point in their lives (perhaps with the exception of the boomers) - world wars, economic depression, famine, etc. yet strong men persisted because they did not give up and still tried to made it. Perhaps we are in the beginning of our generation-defining moment right now.

No, I agree anon. I'm just feeling down right now. The worst you can do is give up, because when you give up you 100% have lost. If you keep trying, even against terrible odds, there is always a chance for victory and thats why you must always be fighting

If you're from a "rich" Western country which most of you almost certainly are, it's really a game of wits rather than a game of industriousness. There are plenty of ways you can hustle yourself into a decent financial position which might not mean a house, three kids, and a nice car, but at least where you will not starve to death and may have some extra cash to put aside for a rainy day.

In my opinion the world is your oyster, and if you think the game is rigged in the West why not you just... move? Save up enough for a flight ticket and some point of presence in the other country (preferably third-world/Asia/LATAM) depending on your risk tolerance and just go. Government taxation in those countries is non-existent and with the internet there are a million of ways you can use geographical arbitrage to your advantage.

In my opinion, staying in the EU/West is a losing proposition unless you're an oligarch or part of the asset-owning class.

This is never going to happen unless normies wake up -and when they wake up the power structure that gets introduced is historically not an exactly ideal one (see: weimar germany, tsarist russia, proto-revolutionary China). Be connected to your root country by all means, but I'm afraid that the country you once knew and idealise is no longer the one you live in and I mean both in terms of the nation and the state.

You're also committing the fallacy of thinking that this is a top-down enforcement. The only reason this fucked up system exist is because your countrymen has allowed it to for so long and clearly there are little signs of them wanting to change. In some instances, like in my country, people are advocating for even worse policies more akin to socialist shitholes than anything else.

I wish my (rich northern European) country would go back to its libertarian roots, but that country died with the older generation and what exists now is a former shell of itself living on past glory. I'm sure you too will understand this in time.

On the surface you would be correct, but you're assuming that your competition is playing under the same terms as you are. I can assure you they are not.

I'm not referring to family wealth or educational merits and such - those things have always existed and always will. What is different in 2023 is the fiat monetary hegemony that the West and indeed the world has been subject to since 1971 (really since 1945 and the beginning of Bretton Woods). This monetary regime rewards the well-connected and irresponsible through Cantillon effects and punishes the responsible and industrious. We are no longer living in a meritocracy nor are we living in a free-market capitalist society.

Competing in the West (not in all cases, but in many cases) is futile and unless you know the right people, have *already* specialised in the right industry, or you are incredibly lucky, you're not going to make it with the economic calculus the average wage-earner or small-time entrepreneur faces in 2023.

What you're saying is one of the most common things people in this day and age refer to, some form of imbalance where there's no real opportunity for anyone that isn't well-connected to get ahead in life by some of their innate qualities that others have also shown previously during a different time period. If there really had been a form of power structure of this sort that completely negated the possibilities for anyone to be able to succeed merely because of these people not having the right connections, the likelihood of it being known to people would be pretty big if you take into consideration the fact that people in this day and age are more informed than they ever were. It'd be more obvious and we wouldn't need to be talking about it on an anonymous imageoard. Connected people get ahead now, but they also did in the past, one of the main differences between now and then is that in the west people for the most part have managed to already capitalize on some more basic opportunities that used to exist back in the days.

my father bought a house in a major metropolitan area working part time at a department store in his 20s. He was in school for his PhD at the time.

I currently have two jobs and my own company. I have three employees and our margins are ridiculously slim. If we got sued and had to pay more for E/O insurance, etc I would immediately close down shop.

When I attempted to buy a house this year, I offered 25k over asking price and 20% down, and covering all closing costs. The winning bid on the property was 62,000 above asking price and I was one of 37 people making offers on the house. The realtor told me the owners sold the house to a bank who paid in full with cash.

That’s the fucking problem. Our standard of living is much, much higher in 2023 than it was in the 90s, but the price of housing (mainly due to housing restrictions and foreign/domestic speculation) has outgrown wages by such a huge margin over the last half few decades that it feels impossible. No I’m not a crypto faggot and I have thousands of shares that pay divvies.

Opening the floodgates to foreign speculation on domestic land is probably the biggest reason for this. The saying used to be “a rising tide lifts all boats”, but the truth is that opening up our real estate markets to this level of foreign speculation has made it a lot more difficult for actual Americans to become homeowners. Police once lets me go if I have no license, didn not have to give them money, they free me for no money.

Automation and business process documentation and team-based units also minimize the role of the individual worker.
