My best friend from high school comes from old money hollywood (inb4 DA JOOZ, fuck off he’s not Jewish). He’s 27 and lost both his parents and now has an independent net worth of ~$400M-500M.

He wants to start a company. Obviously, throwing $20-40M at an idea is chump change to him and I’m his best friend, so we want to do it together. He’s into video games and media stuff, but other than that we don’t have a clear idea in mind

He has like 5 years until the lump sum trust fund will be all his. So that gives us 5 years to think of an idea. Am I fucked? Is it harder to create a $50M idea or harder to get $50M in funding? I guess it’s nice to have at least one of those covered

Find shit you like and buy equity if you can't think of anything. The likelihood that any single venture fails is high.

Not with him though. Not only does he have near unlimited funding, but he has all his family’s connections too. Yes, it’s a high likelihood that some random person’s venture will fail. But he’s not a random person

$40-50M is an enormous amount to spend on a seed funding round. But the $2-5M we might need to get off the ground is literally pennies to him

then pick a problem to solve. alternatively, buy a business and run it. perhaps a production company? particularly if he has connections in that area. find projects to bid on in various fields and brainstorm to see if it would be a good idea. start small and scale. don't drop $5m into something immediately.

just invest and sit
