Nearly the entirety of DeFi is dependent on Chainlink oracles at this point. As has been stated for years now, Chainlink is required for crypto as we know it to function. Now that every project that wants to remain relevant (ie. trusted) is using LINK, Chainlink labs are going to stop subsidizing the DONs and charge a fee for use of the network. As a result of that,99.99999% of projects in "DeFi" are now going to be paying Chainlink for the privelege of using their oracles.

It's not hard to understand and should not come as a surprise. This has been known to be an inevitable eventuality for years now. But yeah, you get the idea. Subsidies are ending, and monetization of the oracle service is beginning. Still early stages, but should net about a billion a year with current numbers.

That's why "pay up". Link holders are no longer subsidizing the market, and instead will be receiving payment.
