I just get nervous at these levels. I have a spreadsheet going back to the early 2000s which divides GDX by GLD, and the ratio long term, always drifts away from the miners towards the metal. This spreadsheet is what got me into the miners, because the ratio had cratered by September 2022.

there were incredible high value zones on Dome mined by small scale leaser operations from the 1900s to the 1930/40s, even up to the 1950s, I dont have my notes for there out right now but they were free milling gold as well as sulfides with silver / gold well over Ozpt material, the stuff I used to go play with up there was similar. Those in the lundin list I would consider solid miners to invest in (I'm not telling you to invest in them) or at least a good place to start. I received the email from Rick rule and that is yet another "quality filter" if you will, that can be applied.

I'm saying that if one desires, they can combine these two lists together with the miners that match up (as in have listings on both sources rick rule and lundin) and if both of those sources give the company a favorable rating then you can be pretty damn well assured that's its a good inevstment.

Lundin says that avino gold and silver and i80 mines are good investments, rick rule gave i80 gold a five which is good for him and said they had "no focus investment" which they are currently building through exploration. And avino gold and silver a 6 and said they had a "good folowing".

Based on MY criteria, these were the best miners on the entire project. I filtered for PRODUCERS at small market caps. Both of these have exploration plays and favorable analyst reviews.

The work is done. It's all good. That was the point. To compile these lists and find the best miners which in my opinion was i80 gold and avino gold and silver. Other people might have their own opinions and they are free to come up with them based on what they're looking for.

Another note. Jeff clark recently made a video on YouTube where he gives his top miner picks. He also gives them for free on his website. Jeff is pretty good at picking stocks and has a good track record.

Sure I agree with you, in a bull market 30% return on investment is low. In a bear market, though, that is fantastic.

But if you'll take a look at some of the majors that RR has invested in, you'll notice many of them have made much better gains than a mere 30%. Look at the three or five year chart in companies like Ivanhoe or Cameco or Franco Nevada or Exxon. You'll notice these companies have done quite well during this bull market. Many of the juniors, in contrast, have reverted back to their lows. RR invests on a pretty long time scale, according to himself he looks to invest for at least a five year timeframe. The difference in investment timeframe alone is in large part a reason for why people here don't see eye to eye with RR in many ways I think

Now, I'm not saying all microcaps or juniors or midcaps are bad investments, and I'm also not saying all majors are good investments. I think both have their place in a portfolio. I'm trying to point out that simply going balls to the walls in high beta shit may not always be the right choice. I pick my juniors and my majors myself. I pick the timings and I choose how much risk I want to take. I'm not very good at speculating when gold or any other commodity goes up or down so I invest a part of my capital into bigger companies with low costs and strong balance sheets. Part of my portfolio goes into more speculative investments. It doesn't have to be this all or nothing game.

This is how I'm currently tracking the gold miners. It's not perfect but this spreadsheet got me in to GDX below $24.

I track (1) GDX vs GLD and (2) GLD vs GSG, aka the "real price of gold", on 1, 3 & 10 year timeframes. To check exuberance in the gold price, I simply look at the percent above or below the 200 day moving average. When gold is 15% above the 200dma, it's beginning to get frothy.

The 2011 & 2020 tops happened with gold 25%+ over its own moving average. If gold is 10% below its own 200dma, that often indicates excessive pessimism.

Interested to hear from other people what indicators you look at. The other one I might add is gold miners vs the metals & mining ETF.

I believe mean reversion is more reliable than technical indicators. If the miners are at decade lows vs gold, or if gold is bombed out vs other commodities, that's a more compelling reason to me, to take a chance.
