That's my trigger word to compulsively post. I think I read the post years ago but it's tl;dr this time around.
I'm my dealings with China, it's always been comparative, looking at them as possible vendors and generating risk/benefit options analysis.
I have worked in small national corps to billions a year profit corp now. I only include China as an option to head off the question.
Their manufacturing conditions are terrible, if it's a physical product you need. Most won't budge on 20% advance payment, full payment on receipt of test shots. In a country where the courts almost always rule against foreign companies.
Overseas contracts aren't even considered in proceedings, there's additional overheads in Chinese lawyers and reputable managing firms we never have offshore workers from there, we use India or Vietnam, again because they actually honour contracts and you have recourse.
And most importantly, their benefit in cost savings is overhyped. I've almost always found/negotiated better or at least comparable conditions locally.
Go to China, but obviously don't expect to be respected as a fellow human there, the one thing they still have going for them culturally is extreme nationalism. That doesn't translate to them being good to each other, just in group bias in comparison to gweilo.
I've never lived there, just talking business dealings.

leaf musicfag here. i studied at the central conservatory of music in beijing (basically the juilliard of china) and it was pretty intense - like 6 hours of practice a day; 3 hours guided, 3 solo. The teachers were really strict during lessons and they'll make you feel like shit if you slack off, but you'll get turbo good real fast if you can handle harsh criticism. Outside of lessons, my teachers were really nice and ate/drank with me. they're still friends of mine.
i'd recommend traveling to hunan province - way better than beijing in almost every regard. super pretty, not as polluted at bj, and the food is some of the best i've ever eaten

if you could use ai to find cats that would be useful. upload a pic of your cat and if it gets lost use the app. anyone in your area can then take a picture of any cat they find on the street and the app will tell them if that cat is missing or not and if theres a reward (which will motivate people to search for cats and make some extra income)

i saw once someone had trained an ai to tell cats apart, i think it was going to be used in a petfeeder that can facially recognize cats and feed specific cats specific food for when you have a lot of cats. so its not entirely infeasible with some development to take that sort of thing even further with improving ai.

maybe the app can do degrees of certainty. like "70% sure this is the cat you're looking for". with perhaps a more accurate assessment if you take more pictures from different angles assuming the owner also took multiple pics from different angles. some owners won't want you to attempt capturing the cat since it will just run away but might reward anyone who manages to take a picture of the cat, which might lead to the owner finding it.
