why is no one talking about platinum? it's the most undervalued trustless asset on the planet, making it the most comfy hold

no that would be silver. platinum is definitely on the list tho.

silver is definitely undervalued, but when we hit a top, the platinum:gold:silver ratio will be very much in platinums favor

what stocks to buy?
or do you buy raw plat?

historially, platinum is higher than gold, a recession hits, at which point they reach parity
since 2015, they have decoupled, and now gold is nearly 2x the price of platinum
a recession will not hammer platinum like it has in the past, it's currently available for deep recession prices, and the hard pivot will happen within the next 12 months

>> No.54506232

I think platinum is pretty based. how do I buy it

I have coins and bars. I looked at miners for a bit and found it difficult to find a pure platinum play. I have a small position in Stillwater Critical as a gamble.

physical platinum, trade it for gold when the ratio is favorable

unlike silver, which gold companies mine a lot of, 72% of platinum comes from south africa, and 93% comes from south africa, russia, and zimbabwe
when platinum prices soar, it's not a given that the small number focused on platinum will do well

>>54506276
What ratio are you waiting for? I want to see 2-to-1.

>> No.54506371

>>54506339
i'd trade some at 1 to 1, most at 1.5 to 1, and the rest at 2 to 1
2 to 1 is where i'd be very nervous about holding platinum, since a sharp decline would be likely relative to gold

Because it’s an industrial metal more than a precious metal. The only reason it’s as expensive as it is is because it’s used in catalytic converters. Electric cars don’t need them, platinum and palladium are probably not going up much long term

>> No.54506506

>>54506442
It's definitionally a precious metal. Did you mean monetary metal?

>> No.54506520

>>54506442
silver is an industrial metal as well
platinum does have unquestionable recognition as a precious metal, as well as a monetary metal, since every major nation mints platinum coins
but all i'm concerned about is ratios
if you think gold is going to go up, platinum is the best way to play it, since it's about half the price and is likely to hit parity again, meaning you can get gold for ~1100/ounce

>> No.54506638

>>54506506
>>54506520
Yes apologies I meant monetary metal. And yeah I know they mint coins with it but that’s just a number, you can have a million dollar platinum coin, doesn’t mean it’s worth a million. My point is that the current high value of platinum and especially palladium are mostly due to catalytic converters. Once catalytic converters are gone platinum is going the way of silver. Valuable but not really needed

This is accurate. Buy gold and silver instead. The (((push into electric cars))) will kill almost almost all demand for platinum and palladium.

the industrial component is why platinum has fallen relative to gold during recessions
we're already at recession prices, the ratio is favorable
ev's are slowly gaining traction in the west (hybrids are far more common), but the number of combustion engines being made is very high globally
it see industrial demand playing a smaller factor than platinum benefitting as a pm when gold breaks out

>> No.54506802

Platinum was at an all time high in the last recession though

>> No.54506874

>>54506802
okay
i'm not saying buy platinum when it's double the price of gold
i'm saying buy it when it's half the price of gold
all trustless monetary assets will do well this decade

>> No.54506893

>>54506638
>catalytic converters
both platinum and palladium have many applications beyond this (electrical contacts, glass making, and medicine for eg). I would expect there to be a correction if catalytic converters really disappear, but who's to say the demand won't spring right back because you need both metals to make the electrical contacts in EVs?

>> No.54506926

it's a fallacy to think that ev vehicles will mean less combustion engines on the road
there will be more combustion engines in the world in 2030 than in 2020

I did some research here recently as a client was interested in the idea, the hydrogen industry is very important to future of the platinum group metals, it seems more likely platinum will be used more than palladium but its still not certain.
