This is true for starting wages. But you're not considering what's really happening. People have high demand for high skilled engineers. Low skilled entry level engineers are easily replaced by poojeet and in order to get an H1B worker, you have to prove that the prevailing wage couldn't find you an American equivalent. Basically the industry purposely suppresses the wage for entry level engineers so they can import an Indian.
Moral of the story is you should have been born sooner. Pretty soon the wage for an entry level engineer will be negative. You'll need to pay them for working there because AI will for sure kill those low level positions.

Tell me you don't know what software engineering is without telling me.
The higher up you go, the less code you actually write. It's documentation, tech specs, meetings, requirement gathering, planning out future scope. A cute chat model that can't even get simple code right isn't a replacement for a good engineer. It's intern level at best. But cope how you want to. Still getting paid.

You're right that experienced engineers are valuable, but you neglect that management is retarded. Big tech will go the way of most other businesses and become too bureaucratic to the point that they will only think in terms of dollars per hour, hence will axe their talent when times get tough because they're too expensive. And when enough experienced codecucks are on the market, their price will necessarily go down. It's just the way of the world.

Entry level engineers are fucked in more ways that one. The obvious one as the OP mentioned are the terrible salaries. But the worst part is the competition a new grad will face to even get that job. A ton of major projects outsource the entry level engineering work to India already and it's going to get worse. Western unis still pump out engineering grads while outsourcing increases, so now it's simple supply and demand cucking your salary for the foreseeable future.

Engineering will always exist domestically in the west as it's a regulated profession, but if you're graduating right now and job hunting good fucking luck. If you manage to get an engineering job with a reputable company, here's some advice: don't even think about job hopping for more pay until you've got your PE license. You need to take your beatings as a good little entry level cuck. Once you've got your PE, you do have options that are difficult if not impossible to outsource to India. Position yourself for management type roles as a long term goal if you want any semblance of stability.

I stayed at my company actually so idk how the market is. Literally stopped working for a few months, bootcamped, and came back. Now have a bit over 2 years of full stack experience under my belt. I don't regret it but last I heard the market for bootcamp devs is weak with companies hiring less and bootcamps still pumping out "grads"

That said if you have an engineering degree already and a good resume otherwise (established history of work, not at mega shit tier companies, didn't just do pencil pushing work) I think you'll be better off than people who have never had their lives together and then decided to learn to code.
