The real finality would be if the shares somehow stayed below a dollar for 180 days as that would get the company delisted from the NYSE and it would go to OTC markets which would basically be a death sentence, but I doubt that happens as they already have plans to do a reverse split soon (and have openly stated if the reverse split doesn't go through they'll be filing for bankruptcy). You're just acting like a mississippi wind chime at this point, the share price squeezing would be as a result of a merger or acquisition announcement as all short positions would have to be closed at that point. Wherever it ends up trading after that is irrelevant, it may not even resume trading under the same ticker after that, but anyone buying shares right now and anyone still holding isn't betting on the company returning to profitability they're betting on it having made a deal to either join with another company or spin off the lone profitable part of it to another necessitating a ticker change. If they just let it ride into nothing and do nothing to stop it before declaring bankruptcy there will absolutely be board members going to prison over it so that's just not an option unless they're literally all insane which is incredibly unlikely. Since they're not insane, they'll be merging with Newell and doing a spinoff of baby to someone else and while this is all happening and the price is ripping they can sell a few hundred million dollars worth of shares into the market to pay down the most pressing sections of their debts before BBBY is no longer a ticker and merges with another after selling off a portion of their business to meet the necessary terms of the merger (because whoever they're merging with sure as fuck doesn't want all of their debt on their balance sheets).
