I have a dilemma for you anons. My father was a coin "collector". By that I mean he would find "interesting" coins in his pocket change and stash them. He left me somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 pennies, the vast majority of those being of the wheat variety. Whole tubes of steel pennies, Indian heads and so on. Those are awesome and fun to paw through.
The down side is that late in life, he became obsessed with state quarters. I haven't rolled them up yet, but I am sitting on at least 23 pounds of quarters. Not junk silver, but clad, recently minted. I am not a coin guy, but it is my unprofessional opinion that these will never be worth more than face. He completed a couple books of quarters, so I believe I have all the "interesting" varieties saved off.
My gut feeling is that I should cash the quarters in and buy bullion. Looking at around $460, which wouldn't be much compared to my current stack, but it would at least have intrinsic value...

yes, its based on the exchange trading.
basically if you bought paper silver on comex when the asian market opened and sold it when it closed
then you let the western market (USA) suppressed the price while you were in dollars since the 70's
then you would've made 95/0.3 = a 316X
because silver went up 95x during eastern trading hours
and went to 0.3x its value during the western trading hours

After almost four months we now finally have NEWS of the first 2023 coin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TAhOYfwC6c Not even a RELEASE estimate mind you, just NEWS saying "Yeah it might exist". In addition, the Silver Proof sets already up for sale went and raised the issue price from $105 to $130 so SOME kind of mismanagement is happening if they need an extra $25 despite silver not costing more.

Does this mean people are buying bullion? And if the gold-silver ratio tends to close when 'real money' is needed why do some not go all-in or mostly-in on silver? Is it a concern that they might not be able to survive until the ratio closes as it would take time to?
Or is it a possibility that (especially if BRICS gets any major sway) there are markets that will only accept gold and not even the equivalent in silver? What with the differing technological applications and all?
Lots of questions but if anyone has time to lay it out I'd be glad. I'm sure some of you are taking on extra hours to accelerate your stacking.

Also you should never base purchasing decisions on claims like this from a seller, you must always judge for yourself based on the pictures. Many times a seller will claim a piece is plated when the hallmarks are legit and the piece is good solid silver, likewise other sellers will engage in petty swindles and lie about plated junk being good or simply be ignorant about how plated stuff will test good if they just do a simple surface acid drop test and don't grind a deep notch to test.

For the ones who could be interested, there is a quite amazing lot on sale who end up in 1h20.
It's 6x ice cream spoons in .950 silver and vermeil, exposed during the Exposition Universelle of 1878.
It's from the jeweler Boucheron (this piece was designed by Legrand), the Boucheron house is one of the jeweler for the elite of the elite.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boucheron

It's weighting 165gr, but ofc you don't purchase this kind of pieces for the silver content.

You’re right about coins being easier to identify as they often have added security features to prevent counterfeits BUT plenty of world coins have Chinese lead markets. The simple answer to this is only buy from trusted sources.

While they’re more recognizable, I love rounds as I get bored of stacking just coins no matter how much I love krugerrands. Some schizos on here theorize an end of the world scenario where coins will be valued higher than rounds because of their recognition but silver is silver at the end of the day.

COPPERCHADS understand that when the collapse comes and silver and gold sky rocket you won’t be using full ounces of silver for the usual transactions anyways. Outside of a dime for a blowjob the true geniuses will be using their pure copper bullion for daily exchange.

If you don't hold it you don't own it. Simple as. You're trading IOUs at this point. This is how we got into this mess. Adding some kind of gold custody into the mix doesn't add anything. Just use normal buttcoin and buy gold with it if you want.

Yeah, I can't do it with a (((gold backed))) shitcoin either.
>you cant look at your hunk of gold and use it to order something at amazon
You don't need (((gold backed))) anything to do this. Normal, regular crypto will work for this just fine.
>bitcoin is destined to zero,
That's because the tech is outdated. It's a proof of concept that got wildly popular. There's better tech like Monero which is also fully private. Eventually it might be replaced but there is nothing else that compares in terms of decentralization and hash rate so BTC will remain the dominant cryptocurrency in the foreseeable future.

again, the ¤ symbol next to the value indicates that it'll only be worth scrap, for whatever reason it's just a few cents off and isn't in sync. I hardly believe any of those coins would be worth melt though, the price jumps from 60-63 are ridiculous. Really take NGC valuations with a grain of salt when you're checking out coins on the niche-r side, looking the coin up on eBay and going to the "sold" listings will give you a better idea of what they go for.

Correct. It only has to have value long enough for the recipient to cash out (into gold/silver).

I refer you to where I recently bought them >>54381146 $34 shipped over spot.
$34 shipped over spot for a 160 year old gold coin?! No numismatic.
I'm cool if someone is liquidating a lot or there is less interest in out of country coins or ????, but I'm fishing for some concrete reason. Any logical reason these old coins are going for essentially spot.

But as you can see they really do not go far above melt, even nice and lustrous examples
(apologize for the long link, it's vital to how the ebay search is conducted)

This tbdesu. I am pretty into guns and would just buy different optics and mounts and upgrade bolts and barrels and shit endlessly. Don’t get me wrong, I still like my gun collection and still spend money on ammo to train, but now every gun purchase is taking away from my stacking. In the ~8 months I’ve been stacking I’ve diverted basically $10k away from redundant gun shit and into gold and silver.

He's right, for $2k+ I'd rather pick something I really want and not be surprised, but I guess some people have money to burn.

This. Get eagles. Don’t worry about the premiums. Eagle premiums were approaching 100% at the peak and have cooled of since silver has done nothing the last 12 months. So they are a great buy right now. When silver pops again and people go rushing for silver, eagles are the first to sell out. The premiums are going to be crazy.

I mean tbf I do not really see why that coin in particular would have any collector value, millions were made and that doesn't include the millions and millions of other LMU gold pieces of other countries too.
I know that certain swiss/french 20 francs can go for way higher depending on the mintage, but only on the most pristine examples.
even american pre33 isn't much of an exception to this, only a bit more premium is demanded than their european counterparts because 'murica.
I suppose that costs are lower compared to modern gold coin because the coins were made a century+ ago and the cost of minting them has already been long forgotten, so they just trade for whatever spot + markup this (in this case, none)

Anyone know much about this one? 1975 sterling silver. Should be about 20g if the listing is right. Think I found someone who just wants rid of it or doesn't know the value of silver. They want $27 for this on eBay. Good? Are they really 20g ?
