From the hours of Gordon Ramsey I've watched on YT, drinks are where restaurants get most of their margins from. Or maybe not the majority of their profit, but a good chunk. If you have two covers per table on a full weekend, you're getting hundreds of dollars in profit from drinks.
If you can't do alcohol, try offering options that cater to the young crowd but without alienating your current client base.

I know inflation sucks, but is there any way you can cut food costs while retaining quality? Shrinking the menu or 3-4 entrees at most, streamlining things, finding other suppliers with better costs, etc?

I'd really rather just refill my water on my own, honestly. If I could, I'd love to just take my plate from the kitchen and sit down myself. Question to Americans. Do all taxi drivers expect tips? I got a message from an Uber driver while there because I didn't tip. It was 2.5x surge pricing at the time btw and I had to wait over 30 minutes for the taxi to arrive.

my first job was washing dishes at a restaurant. I was stuck in the kitchen from 4:00PM until 11-11:30PM washing dishes non-stop. The cooks were there at 2 or 3 preparing and that's why I had a sink-full to start, and they didn't clock off until about an hour after the kitchen closed when they were done cleaning everything. My "dishwasher machine" was basically a home dishwasher with no detergent and no top rack. It just ran boiling water through the rack to make sure everything was sanitized up to code, but all the actual washing needed to be done by me by hand. And that included both kitchen dishes and customer dishes. The waitresses would not even scrape the plates before giving them to me so I had to do that too. It sounds petty but the difference between taking every plate and plunging it straight into the sink vs having to discern whether it's clean enough or not slows you down by 30-40%.

Everyone in the kitchen was working their asses off for 8 hours straight with maybe 5 minutes of break in total per person. The waitresses didn't lift a finger until the first customer walked in around 4:30 and were done the second the last customers left around 9:30. Every single one of them had enough time to hang around the waitress station for probably a total of one hour each night, and all of them got a free drink at the bar after the kitchen closed and all of their customers had left. Essentially they were the last ones in and the first ones out, and during each shift they had the easiest workload, the most breaks, and the most pleasant environment to be in.

Tips were not shared with the kitchen.

Waitresses deserve even less than what they get now. It's the easiest job in the entire restaurant bar none.

when I was a pizza delivery driver our shop had a $1 service fee for delivery and, credit where credit is due, the owner actually put that dollar straight in my pocket. I had to pay for my own gas though so, in the end, that mandatory dollar really did nothing but make me break even on gas. The service “industry” should never be anything other than a temporary gig for a quick buck while you’re launching resumes elsewhere out of a minigun because by nature (here in muttland anyways) profits are almost always going to be razor thin. This is the one instance where they literally cannot afford to pay more since so many restaurants are ran and managed by utter imbeciles, and even then the very nature of it is delicate as hell and almost completely to the whims of whatever economic bullshit is going on, kind of like how construction gets dragged down in shit economies.
