I'm in the UK and everything is turning (or has already turned) to shit. I'm in the 90% percentile in household income (have wife, no kids) and considering emmigrating somewhere else to escape this declining country. The average brit is 60% poorer thn the average American.
Then I realised that I'm in a great, secure position on a good wage in tech (as is my wife) and seemingly everyone else is getting into debt and getting paycuts.
Is it better to be in the richest 10% in a shit country or move into the richest 60% in a better country? I'm thinking France or Netherlands.

You could come over here, to the Netherlands. I'd avoid France since they don't speak bong and have strikes all day.

I would refuse to be rich in a poor country.

You're in a similar position to me, but we had kids and my wife dropped her job. I've asked the same question but ultimately, decided that nowhere has ever compared to Blighty. Foreigners are so incompatible that I'd have to live in some kind of desolate but beautiful area for it to be worth doing.
Have you ever been outside of the UK for longer than 2 weeks?

Nope. There are definitely things I would miss but would love somewhere with better weather.

Either way I'm wondering if the general decline might benefit my lifestyle here. It's a very complicated thgouth economically though. Where most of the wealth is tied up by old people more than ever, there will be some hefty inheritance packages going to younger people.

Another thing I appreciate is public services and general clean streets which is more likely in rich countries.

I think it will. You might need to invest in more things like security, or maybe moving to a nicer area but that's it. If things really do get that bad and you can keep a high income then you'll have a micro version of fucking off to Thailand or wherever. The weather isn't as good but you're built for it (assuming you're actually British).

With regards to going aboard, you should really attempt to do a 3 week+ trip to somewhere you're considering and don't just do touristy shit, go to an area where you'd realistically be moving to and go as if you weren't coming back and see how you find it.

The latter ofc, living between poor / uneducated ppl is hell, even if you don't show off they'll smell you don't belong and will try to rip you off at every turn.
An affluent surrounding is always better, education and manners will be currency.

Genuinely, good for you, but the problem is when all those other people vote to take your stuff.

Just move to Wales. Nice cheap houses. Nice old school towns and countryside.

Unless you're in London. In which case, go fuck yourself.
