The average you need to make money is around a ton of scrap, you will need the capital to buy chemical and other supplies in such large orders to work out a discount and also the facilities to setup and store everything as well. So basically if you start a refining company you can make money doing it. Which is why this guy is selling it to people instead of doing it himself. He is going to make more money by a long shot selling scrap then getting it refined.
