It's not possible to have more sellers than buyers. Every buyer is matched with a seller. Every seller is matched with a buyer.

If a seller lists their shares at an asking price above that which any buyer is willing to accept, no transaction occurs.

>I think their weird argument is that shorting a stock creates artificially low demand or high supply to drive down the price
This is actually true, if you assume that there is a limited demand pool of total buyers with limited amounts of money they can spend buying a stock.
Shorting does tend to depress share prices, but it really depends on that demand curve. Shorts covering would then increase prices proportionally, as supply declines.

The 2nd part is false - it assumes that shorts will be required to cover. They have this delusion that they can register their shares directly and remove them from the brokerage, thus preventing shorting. The issue is that none of that increases demand. They're still holding overvalued trash. If they wanted to remove shorts, they should just privatize GME, but their whole goal is that it reprices to infinity and then they dump the bags on someone else. Absolute delusion.
GME holders do not understand elasticity of demand.

Commodity or an index. Indexes are easier to trade in my experience. And yes, you need to know that futures contract and it's price action like the back of your hand. You sit down, watch it move for a few thousand hours over months and trade with simple principles of support, resistance, TA you develop on your own and a tiny bit of fundamentals that affect the market as a whole. Just buy VOO or VT if that is your plan. You'll still homd those companies but in 10-20 years when they are replaced by the new megacaps you won't be trapped underperforming. It really is that simple.

VOO and VT are literally weighted so you are exposed to the top performing companies and if they stop being the top performing they will be replaced by the new top performing companies.

Slurping is an addiction. They see what this bank was worth previously, and have this great delusion that it'll trade back there. Then you get some momentum chasers mixed in as it flips back positive for a moment.

Single digits tomorrow.

Leverage is also simple. Contracts move a specific dollar amount per point. ES it's 50USD/point, MES is only 5, YM is also 5 but moves more etc. You multiply the USD/point value by the current price and you get the notional value of the contract. Then your broker offers it with a given minimum intraday margin, say 400$ for an ES and you can calculate the leverage ratio from that. It technically varies with price since margins are usually fixed, but you really don't need to know the leverage (for the ES these days it's ~500:1 if you wanna know), just the point value and margin requirements.
>>54225703
That's true for some, but not for the kind of trading I do.
My trades are usually less than 10 minute long and over 30 only in situations with strong trends or unusually slow days. I don't need to know if stocks will pump after corona or not and I don't need big picture. When I sit down, I mostly look at what price has done in the past few hours. I look at a longer chart as well for longer bias and key levels, but short term has greater weight in my decision making. And fundamentals only matter to me in the sense that if there's a good reason why the market should go up or down, I am wary of taking trades in the opposite direction.
And I don't need my analysis to dictate where price goes, just tell me what is more likely to happen in the next 10-20 minutes. I also don't need to catch larger moves, since with the insane leverage futures offer, a trade worth 5-10 points on the ES with the 5 contracts I'm trading is already a good bit of money. Perfecting winning "small" with consistency is the key for what I do.
For example, today I had no idea where all the new around banks and upcoming rate decision would affect the market. I had a mild bearish bias, but it's just part of it. I made short trades in the early morning (european time), then made a few longs later when it seemed to be turning around.

They can, but would you really risk it on only five stocks for decades? As was explained, the good thing about broad indexes is that it will capture the new, successful companies of the future. New stocks get accepted into the S&P and those that die, get removed

If anyone wants to try this, I'll just say that it's difficult and very time consuming to learn, but not impossible. And avoid trading gurus like the plague. They are all liars or complete idiots. You can learn from the great traders of the past, but only the process and the psychology, not the technical aspect.
