i had 0 networth at 26 and 5 years later I had $500k. why? i worked for 5 years and bought bitcoin every single week (skipping when it was very high). i have more wealth than my peers who wagecucked from 18 and never invested.

nothing actually happens when you turn 30 but as a 31-year-old I can confirm that psychologically, entering your 30s does in fact feel like a big deal

after turning 30 I spend a lot more time thinking about milestones I should be accomplishing such as career milestones, having kids, buying a house, etc. Also you become a lot more cognizant of the fact that all the adults you knew as a kid (including your parents) are going to be dead within 20~30 years.

when you're in your 20s it's a lot easier to ignore such thoughts and tell yourself that you still have infinite time to get your shit together and your parents/mentors will be around for as long as you need them

turning 30 didn't change anything for me, still don't give a fuck about anything except getting better at the things I enjoy and trying to make enough money that I can choose not to work. Career milestones? Having kids? Maybe I wouldn't care about these things regardless but in the state of the fking world rn, just why

I was heavily influenced by MMM early on and did the traditional boomer index fund strategy. Pretty much 99% in crypto these days. There's almost no upward mobility for our generation playing it safe, so I can't respect any strategy that doesn't involve major risk and uncertainty.

Worry about that shit when your 35 or start saving for a mortgage with a girl. Literally stop coming here and focus on your earning potential and get some pussy. If there's one thing I'd tell myself at your age it's to not give a shit about racking up debt and go have fun.

wow haven't heard or thought about Mr Money Mustache in a decade, thanks for the trip down memory lane

I too got roped into the FIRE movement before I got roped into crypto. MMM, Dividend Monk, r/FIRE, reading free articles on SeekingAlpha. Did a lot of stock picking around 2014 ~ 2017 before I got into crypto.

currently 31, own a paid-off house, but still lacking the $1~2 million in investments that I need before I can retire for good

The dirty little secret of FIRE and MMM and all that is you need a solidly 6fig job to make it work on any realistic timeline.

depends on your goals and on your relationship status

if you wanna live that top 5% lifestyle than yeah you need at least $5 million to retire and there's no way to save that much unless you're making solid six figures

but a married couple earing $50k each can still save $2 million for a humble but comfortable retirement within a reasonable timeline

Living an extremely spartan lifestyle just so you can quit working to continue living said spartan lifestyle isn't really freedom. Marriage does make it a lot easier...until you have kids.

The world being shitty does not absolve you of the responsibilities of adulthood. There comes a reckoning for every child that refuses to grow up. You might not feel it for decades, but when you do the wasted time will pile on all at once.
