Classic confidence trick. A guy says "I have so much faith X will happen, I will stake money on it!" Other people take him seriously, and therefore take X seriously (in this case, a mega BTC pump). This encourages a self-fulfilling prophecy of bank withdrawals and BTC growth, but definitely doesn't guarantee $1M BTC.

However, what do you think Srinivasan's total BTC holdings are? Even if he loses the bet, if he can increase his net worth by more than $1M from making this bet in the first place, it's worth it to him.

Did you know in Argentina there is a whole industry of underground cash markets that exchange pesos for dollars and even have motorbike couriers going around doing deliveries, because the first thing people do there when they get paid is exchange their pesos for dollars. The bet was a marketing cost. That's it.
No one talked about this guy and now that he made this bet people can't stop talking about him. It got him a ton of attention. What people with tons of money value is influence because that's not something that can be bought easily.
