The value of the fee depends heavily on what they think about the country (cheap if they don't like the country, expensive if they like it). It might seem no better than storing stacks of hundred-dollar bills, but in fact the latter carries significant costs and risks (secure storage, secure transport, etc.). 0% bonds (especially when they have more duration than those 8-week T-bills) can also protect against a drop in interest rates because their market value would increase.

Am I getting this right? The economy collapsed in 2008 because of investment bank tom fuckery. It wiped out 12 years of growth from the stock market. Then, the government bailed out banks and buisnesses to keep the economy running which has lead to the growth that we have had since. So what I am wondering is. How far will it end up dropping if does again? will it stop when products and assets become affordable to the average person again or will there be a much larger problem economically ?

Working at globohomo companies is hardly a benchmark for intelligence or function. But yes, it makes sense that as the sample size increases, you will find exceptions to the rules. This can be a genetic freak case, though. For example there's a family in, I think, TN, that has the unique property of having "unbreakable" bones. They are the only known people with these genes in the world. You'll find all kinds of weird stuff like that with a large enough sample size.

This. I agree and this is basically what I do. I also work as an electrical engineer and if anything it helps my work, I'm generally happier and more creative. Either way it's just an end of day thing and I'm very productive at work.

doing things in excess is typically the problem. i mean, that's literally the 7 deadly sins. they're all normal things done to excess. that's the sin. gluttony is just eating too much, but you still gotta eat. sex is normal but lust is excess. obviously it's fine to be proud of your accomplishments but pride as a sin is one of EXCESSIVE pride. thus the point i made about moderation. i also like to take regular tolerance breaks to reset and manage my tolerance. saves on money too.

VTI and VEA would give you nearly all stocks from "developed countries," which are pretty much all democracies. (Some might argue that Hong Kong (2.40% of VEA) or Singapore (1.20% of VEA) isn't democratic enough.) Then you could add INDA to get exposure to India. That seems like a pretty good democracy portfolio.
One problem is that, years in the future, a non-democratic country could enter VEA.

Yeah, the whole point of ESG investing is to increase the cost of capital for harmful companies. "Cost of capital" from the company's point of view is "return" from the investor's point of view.
>Is there an anti-ESG ETF that I can buy?
There are funds that brand themselves anti-ESG, like STRV and DRLL, but they seem to be fairly normal index funds. There are funds like VICE that invest in "sin stocks" -- gambling, alcohol, junk food, and tobacco. I don't know of a fund that underweights stocks according to ESG score. That would be the most interesting way of doing it, in my opinion.
