Switzerland's financial industry plays a critical role in the country's economy. The government will ensure the stability and resilience of the banking sector, with the aim of preventing bank failures. While no guarantees can be made, it is unlikely that the Swiss authorities would allow a major bank to fail without taking decisive action to mitigate the consequence

As more information enters the markets, it's less about fundamentals and more about trends. In the 1930s, yes, you'd want a company with solid books. But now with the glut of information, algorithmic traders, and free money, prices are extremely inflated, fundamentals don't matter, and trend trading seems to be the way to go

>> No.54141351

Full statement of the SNB (swiss national bank) on CS:

>The Swiss National Bank SNB and the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA assert that the problems of certain banks in the USA do not pose a direct risk of contagion for the Swiss financial markets. The strict capital and liquidity requirements applicable to Swiss financial institutions ensure their stability. Credit Suisse meets the capital and liquidity requirements imposed on systemically important banks. If necessary, the SNB will provide CS with liquidity.

The SNB and FINMA are pointing out in this joint statement that there are no indications of a direct risk of contagion for Swiss institutions due to the current turmoil in the US banking market.

>Regulation in Switzerland requires all banks to maintain capital and liquidity buffers that meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the Basel standards. Furthermore, systemically important banks have to meet higher capital and liquidity requirements. This allows negative effects of major crises and shocks to be absorbed.

>Credit Suisse’s stock exchange value and the value of its debt securities have been particularly affected by market reactions in recent days. FINMA is in very close contact with the bank and has access to all information relevant to supervisory law. Against this background, FINMA confirms that Credit Suisse meets the higher capital and liquidity requirements applicable to systemically important banks. In addition, the SNB will provide liquidity to the globally active bank if necessary. FINMA and the SNB are following developments very closely and are in close contact with the Federal Department of Finance to ensure financial stability.

If I have to buy 880 shares of WEAT for a trade, how would that look in terms of options?
Eg, for Jul 21 exp, I could get 15 contracts to have 880 delta, but then gamma is high. If I look at expected movement to 1SD, then it's +/- 1.28; this means I can account for the min/max delta with gamma factored in.
So if my max risk is $200, this seems like I need to buy only 4 ATM contracts to have the right risk profile. This puts my total cost to $420 instead of $6200, but that seems like a really big reduction in upfront capital. It can't be right, can it?

My trading system is designed to only lose 2% account size per failed trade, so position sizing and volatility matters. Options just happen to be a convenient way to lever the capital costs of the trade so you can potentially have more on the go at a time.
Options are really great! The expected prices and risks and rewards are all known ahead of time, it just depends on what the underlying does. You can eg expose yourself to vega or theta and construct a spread and choose what risks and rewards pay off

Only zoomers believe this. The market has one trend and it is CRABBING. Information about fundamentals is priced in when it happens, and then we crab otherwise. It might be a slow crab, or a fast crab, but it is a crab nonetheless. We get a day of genuine pump or dump and then the rest of the month is a crab.

It's all about using your money and resources efficiently.
If I had $250,000 in my trade account, I only want to risk 2% per trade. This means a loss should only set me back $5,000. I take profits at 1.0x ATR and losses at 1.5x ATR. Right now the SPY has an ATR of 6.59.
Whether I go long or short is irrelevant; for this particular account, I need to trade 505 shares and take wins/losses once it moves $6.59, such a trade costs $196,000 or about 78% of my capital posted.
But if I use options, I only need to match 505 delta (or equivalent). I could buy 8x 387 calls at just $12,500 which should more or less match the risk but this trade now only takes 5% of my account. Now I could potentially have 10-15 trades on the go at a time.

I sell plenty of options and they almost always expire worthless.
Oftentimes there will be a period in the middle of the contract period where they pump pretty hard, but they almost always expire worthless. Even if they're 10% ITM a week before expiry, they almost always expire worthless.

My counterparties never had intent to own the shares, the thing they were riding was an imaginary value, a dream to ride a wave and bail onto someone else at the top. Perhaps my initial counterparty achieves that, but to do that they're making a trade to someone else. I never close my short options. So by expiry, whoever's holding wants it gone. The only way they achieve that is at zero value. It always comes back to me. Always.

It happens every month. I don't really care if you believe me. Chart SPY performance vs itself excluding monthly OpEx week. It underperforms by ~15% annualized when including options expiry.
We've been crabbing for over a year now, and most of the losses happen on this exact week. You can make excuses like CPI or FOMC alignment or whatever you want, but the reality is that there's been a rise in options trading and it's entirely fake money trying to ride waves of momentum. The one constant is that theta ticks down.

Mostly I sell covered calls, although with rates improving I've been switching more to puts recently. The yield on cash is priced into the gap between puts and calls pricing though, so it's not really a free ride.

I'm sure at some point the bull market will resume and I'll miss out on a month of upside, but it's not like call selling is my only strategy. The point is that for all the math that goes into betting on options, in the end it's a zero-sum game of hot potato. At least when it comes to individual smallcap stocks, there isn't really anyone buying options with intent to ever exercise the options and convert to shares.

I'm bobo-inclined but I think they will have no choice other than to flood the system with money again. They have no other card left to play. They're eventually going to be backed into a corner where credit seizes up, there is no cash available, even if they dump the reverse repo on the world it won't be enough for more than a few months.
So idk, I'm very uncertain, I think anyone who is being honest is very uncertain right now.

yes, sometimes, but that's not the only criteria. i trade Palo Alto Networks and other cybersecurity stuff sometimes because i've sold their products to the DoD in real life and i know how they operate. but mostly it's macro trading and secular trends

for example: solar and green energy is pretty much a fucking scam, but people like that shit so the stocks get bid up. see FSLR. shits been ripping since last July. am i familiar w/ solar panels? fuck no, but people like it, so ride the wave
