In 2020 the markets dropped off a cliff due to the covid shutdowns massacring the economy. The fed's response was to literally print trillions of dollars directly buying stocks bonds etc and cutting interest rates back to zero. 10 trillion dollars of liquidity flooded the markets and inflated massive bubbles in every asset (assets that were already trading at high multiples pre-covid).

Since the 2020-2021 bullrun was a result of the fed's interference, when they began to hike rates and sell the assets they bought in 2022, the market started bleeding because the fed was intentionally contracting the money supply and slowly destroying bonds and other assets via selling.

Therefore, the bull thesis is that the economy will break and the fed will be forced to restart the money printer to stave off collapse, fueling another massive bullrun in assets. The bear thesis is that the fed will refrain from interfering or even continue tightening all the way up until the recession begins because inflation is sticking high and a recession is basically required to get it anywhere near 2%. A recession without fed money printer = stocks crash.
