You are asking too different things. If you buy via treasury direct, it takes cash from your bank account and at maturity automatically sends it back. On your brokerage it goes to secondary markets and then enters on your portfolio on that brokerage. At maturity the broker will add the cash back to your cash position on the brokerage portfolio.
