The structure and inflation adjusted amount of the backstop is nearly identical, the sale to JPMC and HBSC for the UK arm nearly identical. What comes next is Blackstone as Lehman within 6 months. They were able to sell the SIVB backstop as protecting depositors because low IQ retards (read: Americans) think they're guaranteeing the average Joe's $1000 checking balance covered by FDIC instead of $10m techbros. They won't be able to politically sell a Blackstone PE ballot because it's all high net worth investors.

Ugly duckling of the group will suck a mean dick to be loved equally as much of her more attractive friends.

Sad longing eyes, looks like shes a basket case ready to snap because of previous failed relationships.

>Third from left
Everything about her is fake, she has no hobbies interests or unique thoughts of her own. She has created a personality based on the social media of Kendal Jenner.

>4th from left
The alpha female of the group. She must make everyone aware that she is the center of attention, the top bitch. Her dad is a wealthy greaseball investment banker from Los
Angeles. She has her dads credit cards and spends hundreds of thousands on her appearance during her lifetime. If you ever approached her in public she would call the police
on you

>5th from left
Has ridiculous standards like the rest. Would puke in her mouth if she caught you looking at her. Wears tight yoga pants to the gym and does squats for the chads, then shuts
them down when they ask her out. She will never have to work a day in her life nor will she ever experience real hardship

>6th from left
The hippie free spirit of the group. Knows shes hot and doesn't care. She knows the wall is coming fast for her and desperately wants breast augmentation to fix her flat chest.
She has a long term boyfriend but is taking a break with him to fuck a professional baseball player.

https://www.forbes.com/advisor/investing/fed-funds-rate-history/

Let's have a History lesson then. Did you know in the entire history of the Federal Reserve there has been 1 ONE one Uno 1 soft landing it occurred in 1994-1995 where the Fed raised rates all the way to 6%. Throughout the 90's the Fed rate hovered around 5% with adjustments up and down as we experienced a bull run

This is where the fun begins The Fed raised rates in 1999 to try and reign in the Dot Com Bubble which was bringing up inflation. The Market peaked in 2000. In 2001 the Fed intiated 11 rate cuts bringing the rate down to 1.75% in December 2001. The Market Bottomed in September 2002 almost 1 year later.

Alright alright

2008. And free money.

Realizing that the Feds over correction had caused a housing bubble the FED began raising rates between 2004-2006 all the way up to 5.25% It stayed like that until 2007 when the market began to dump. The Fed began making rate cuts eventually cutting to the legendary 0% on December 16th 2008...

The Market Bottomed in March-April of 2009.

Now keep in mind the Tech bubble popped before the Fed increased rates. The Market bottoms after the rate cutting cycle not before or during.

If an actual soft landing occured (HIGHLY DOUBTFUL) the Fed would park rates between 4-6% and would only adjust them as needed. Rate cuts happen when something seriously breaks and the Fed loses control between 2000-Present the Fed lost control so the rates became all fucked up. Powell isn't just trying to fix current inflation he is also grappling with the last 20 years of Fed policy steering with a broken wheel.

>>54095512
The Fed has no reason to cut rates if nothing happens. A soft landing means The Fed hits 5% rates like the 90s without devastating the economy more then it had to. This would mean we soft landed but it also means we won't see cuts only adjustments. Another thing to note the market actually pumped on rate hikes in the 90s. If something happens we will get cuts but that is really bad because it means we lost control for the 4th time in the last 20 years.

Save money if we get a soft landing awesome we all get rich as we buy up, if it crashes which is more likely awesome we get to slurp the mother of all dips and spend the next 5 years eating crab dip waiting for the next bull run to start.

None of this intraday shit matters as long as the Fed is moving rates like a blind man in a dark room playing pinata.

Equity was already fucked. SVB didn't have liquidity to even cover depositors. The FDIC is bailing out depositors and where do you think the money to cover that gap comes from? Fresh printing.

There was some implied tightness due to QT and rising rates, but as fresh money comes in to fill the gaps from the decline in present day equity value inevitably caused by those rate changes, essentially they've reversed all the rate hikes and just said 30y treasuries at 1.2% yield are paid out at par. The fed is becoming bagholder of last resort on their own bad debts of the past.

People in charge like Yellen will say the taxpayers are not paying for this bailout, using a justification that 1.2% yield over time will pay more dollars than they're giving the depositors. However, the consequence of cashing out that 1.2% yield at par when its present value is like 70-80 cents is a huge loss. All those depositors can buy fresh 10y treasuries at 4%. Taxpayers are footing the bill for that 4% because we have 30 trillion in debt. The only reason rate hikes themselves haven't been massively inflationary is that most of our federal debt was already monetized via cheaper treasuries. Those holders were the bagholders taking a loss to help keep inflation lower.
Now, as banks fail and our government becomes the bagholder of those old 1.2% yielders, we're just going to be sitting with 30t in debt paying 4-5% current yield on the entire package.

This is insanely inflationary in the longterm, and inflation in an indirect tax on anyone who holds dollars for any period of time. That includes everyone with a job and a salary in some fixed amount of dollars. Inflation doesn't sit still and wait 12 months for your next raise.

>From the fees which banks pay to be a member of the FDIC
Sorry I didn't realize we had government shills in this thread. That FDIC pool is tiny even compared to their theoretical 250k per depositor coverage across the system, let alone if they have to cover ALL deposits. SVB alone was >100b worth of deposits.

If the fees rise and the banks are obligated to pay, who really pays those fees? Depositors. Who are these depositors? Regular taxpayers. In this case there's no money printing but it's still a tax. I don't think they'll do this though.
Here's why: if the depositors then bail because the bank rates are uncompetitive due to new bullshit fees, then we see a cascade of more bank failures. Then we're back to square one with unrealized losses that have to be carried by someone down the chain of debt/equity. If the fed holds the line and says remaining depositors get paid in full again, then once again they're holding a fat bag of 1.2% treasuries, underwater mortgages, or other bad loans.

In the end, money printing and a steal inflation tax is the road they've chosen. They chose this road back in 2008 and it's just taken this long to really play out. The end result is complete collapse of the system.

It's terrible policy. There's no defending it.

>Why do people fall for commodity cycle pumps?
People always look at the trend and see the massive earnings and think that if it just holds for 1 year they get paid out in full.
But they miss the big picture. It doesn't hold for the year. Once the commodity they're rising peaks it's already over. Production has ramped and will outmatch demand. It collapses within 6 months. Even in a perfect world where a commodity peaks and holds at 1x EBITDA you wouldn't get fully paid out because of the massive tax bill, plus dividend taxes on your end. Plus usually these are often shit companies pumping hardest that had a lot of debt to pay back, idk about that one you posted specifically. Then once they've paid off debt and cut that interest expense, there's still the fact that they're producing from a fixed supply of whatever mine they have, or for the downstream plays it's about equipment and maintenance/refresh costs. So money goes towards that before capital returns. Then the management running these companies is usually self-interested and wants to grow numbers because bigger sales = higher salary. Finally investors get a 3% dividend and an 80% unrealized loss.

It's tough though. You could say the same thing to dissuade someone who enters early. It can be difficult to know when that peak and collapse will actually happen. As long as the commodity keeps rising, the shares will naturally rise in step because there's always perceived potential even further beyond.
It's like a lottery system, in a way. Just a gamble.

I don't know why you refuse to accept that the money in the FDIC fund is government money.
That is money that was outside the economic system, and is now being inserted into the economic system.

Do you think that when the government signs a trillion dollar budget it's not printing? Do you think that the treasury conducts it's massive weekly auctions, there's no printing?
At what point in this process do you accept that money has been "printed"?

It seems you're really caught up on the fact that they are "printing". If the FDIC had not been pushed to go above and beyond existing mandate then fees would be cheaper, or the fund would be more profitable. As a government entity, those profits beyond the necessity of their insurance float are government money. When they reduce profit because of actions like this, that is a debt relative to what it otherwise would've been. That is printing.

It's a state owned enterprise. When insurance funds profit off their underwriting and the float exceeds what is needed to cover future claims, they have excess cash they can extract.
As the FDIC is a government entity, that excess belongs to the government.

By bailing out depositors, the float is now reduced. Money has effectively already been printed.

Even increased fees wouldn't really negate this. Any fee increases are with the knowledge that FDIC limit is no longer 250k per depositor. It's ALL deposits. This is a big difference. The float needed to cover such claims exponentially larger. In reality, by stating that all depositors will be fully insured, they've printed even more money beyond merely the excess outflows caused by this one case backstopping SVB.

>> No.54097042

Over the past years banks used customer deposits to buy safe US treasuries to earn a pittance in interest. Recently those investments have lost a lot of value because newly issued treasuries yield higher interest because of the Fed's rate hikes.

You end up with every bank carrying billions in unrealized losses on their balance sheets. This becomes a problem when many customers suddenly want their deposits back all at once (bank run).
