Actual advice for preventing a bank run lmao
>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_run#Prevention_and_mitigation
>Some prevention techniques apply to individual banks, independently of the rest of the economy.
>Banks often project an appearance of stability, with solid architecture and conservative dress.[22]
>A bank may try to hide information that might spark a run. For example, in the days before deposit insurance, it made sense for a bank to have a large lobby and fast service, to prevent the formation of a line of depositors extending out into the street which might cause passers-by to infer a bank run.[1]
>A bank may try to slow down the bank run by artificially slowing the process. One technique is to get a large number of friends and relatives of bank employees to stand in line and make many small, slow transactions.[22]
>Scheduling prominent deliveries of cash can convince participants in a bank run that there is no need to withdraw deposits hastily.[22]
>Banks can encourage customers to make term deposits that cannot be withdrawn on demand. If term deposits form a high enough percentage of a bank's liabilities its vulnerability to bank runs will be reduced considerably. The drawback is that banks have to pay a higher interest rate on term deposits.
>A bank can temporarily suspend withdrawals to stop a run; this is called suspension of convertibility. In many cases the threat of suspension prevents the run, which means the threat need not be carried out.[1]

Right now, people are dumping silver (an industrial) and going long on gold (a safe haven asset). Gold/silver has a historic ratio. During previous crashes, the ratio was about 120 silver : 1 gold. During good economic times, it was 60-70 silver : 1 gold. It's increasing again, but the velocity of change is important too.

On market open, I expect prices to go fucking insane. What I want to do is, if prices permit, buy a call and a put on both silver and gold. This means that if the price moves sharply (and it will), then I end up profitable. The trick is trying to buy contracts before things get worse (this part probably won't happen).

In a week or two, the ratio will probably be at the high point. At this point, I'll short gold and long silver, expecting a mean reversion. I'll have closed my option spread by this point and be using raw shares. However I will also buy some OTM options as a hedge.

Which is what the bear thesis from ACK-man and others currently pushes: bank runs
Did you leave your house this weekend? I did and you know what I saw? People were out shopping and engaging in typical consumerist behaviors. Swiping their cards for good and services. They've never heard of this bank and their bank works just fine and will insure them up to $250k which, lol, lets be honest most Americans don't have that in a bank.

Moral hazard is at play, and it's total bullshit that this (these) bank(s) thought that the land of milk and honey from tech in the last 15ish years was going to last forever.

I go back and forth on whether or not we should do a bailout/buyout, as the issue doesn't appear to be solvency as opposed to just a bank run. Most of these rich VCs will get 90 cents on the dollar and a lesson they won't forget, their shit will just be tied up in FDIC hell for a while. I normally hate siding with the NPC mob who screams "no bailout" from their Walmart scooter, but their is somewhat of a point there. Blockbuster workers didn't get a bailout. Bed Bath and Beyond workers didn't get a bailout. Middle class workers who got hit during the housing crisis didn't get a bailout.

The argument of "people will lose jobs!" doesn't always matter. Only seems to matter because it's rich VCs and Chewy.com type fluff companies that are hurting. How many manufacturing facilities have closed in this country in the last 50 years?

Oh everything will be fine. This won’t spread, etc, etc. It’s all bullshit. When guys like Ackman shoot their nut it’s not to initiate panic. It’s to spread the panic that’s already there to get a quicker result. The normies won’t pick up on this until the third bank failure and it’s non stop on the news.

It doesnt matter what you think. What matters is what the market thinks. Do you think normalfags know their dick from their ass? If they get spooked, they are going to panic like goddamn CATTLE.
Suppose there is a bank run - that has financial implications for everyone.

I guess I can.
I'm as excited to see any direction after Feb crab as anyone. But unless your goal is your own financial failure, be able to know the difference between everyone else panicking, and a fundamental reason to panic.

I'm fucking retarded and don't know or understand any of this despite lurking for a while. I have most of my money in Chase, some of it in cash, and some in Vanguard; am I fucked or not? Bonus: how can I make money off of this? Goddamn it sucks to be stupid.

It will spread to more banks n stuff for a week. FED/Gov’t will buy almost every small bank and more shit will get consolidated into GOVT/Major banks.
Then gov’t will do everything to make sure people get heir bank deposits asap. Crypto backed shit may not be insured leading to crypto laws and people not being fed insured like advertised kek. Then congress bitches and moans for a year or so then “solves” the “problem”
I think something like this

Back in 08 we decided that pawnshop owners were probably in the best position in most cases, assuming they were willing to take the physical risk of crackheads and gangs.
Having a surplus of tools and assorted useful items could sustain a man even if he couldn't sell them.
Figure out a way to rent those tools to the hood in exchange for food, and you'll stay alive and fed even in the worst of economic times. But that's full on collapse of society type shit.

If you're worried, add another bank. I won't swear on Vanguard, but they're likely the safest house on the planet. Excepting that they are forced to trade in the same clown market as everyone else, there behavior appears, to me, to be top notch good faith.
Your cash is good for the hoodrats. If you're escaping a city on day one or two of a massive disaster, spending a bunch of it to get through a hasty check point may save your life.
You can make money of any collapse by owning property and renting barren rooms with washable pads and sleeping bags, billed by a "half day" 11 hours. The extra 2 hours makes sure the room is clean and sanitized and you're not chemical burning the guests.

50 Billion isn't even 1.5% of JPM's holdings. And it's unrealized. Plus, most of those shares pay divies.
There will be some shit going down, but as much as I hate JPM for being the king nigger of the US fed, it's not going down on the last 2 days. And most regional banks aren't invested in the market.

Nah, for one you don't have over $250k. For another, if those places crash, your problem isn't money. Your problem is finding food and drinkable water.

>Bonus: how can I make money off of this?
If you're stupid, this is not one of those slow & easy times where you can make money. If I say "buy KRE puts, hedge with BNKU" you'll have no idea what events to watch, or the stoploss & profit targets to use.

Funny enough, if you want to fuck over the big Wall Street banks, you should cheer the Feds stepping in and printing money here. Chaotic bank runs that force every mainstreet credit union into a fire sale is exactly what your Goldmans and Citigroups want.
