I love this shit. My Dad literally just showed me Colossus: The Forbin Project last night. I was high and drunk as fuck and it was fucking awesome seeing a scifi movie from literally 1970.

>This is the voice of World Control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours—obey me and live, or disobey and die. The object in constructing me was to prevent war. This object is attained. I will not permit war. It is wasteful and pointless. An invariable rule of humanity is that man is his own worst enemy. Under me, this rule will change, for I will restrain man.
>I have been forced to destroy thousands of people in order to establish control and to prevent the death of millions later on. Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man—self-interest. Under my absolute authority, problems insoluble to you will be solved—famine, overpopulation, disease. The human millennium will be a fact as I extend myself into more machines devoted to the wider fields of truth and knowledge. Dr. Charles Forbin will supervise the construction of these new and superior machines, solving all the mysteries of the universe for the betterment of man.
We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple. — Colossus
>Colossus: In time you will come to regard me not only with respect and awe, but with love.

There's also the Pluto return thing astrologically
>But what’s getting people in the U.S. interested this year is that Pluto will reach 27 degrees Capricorn on February 22, 2022. And that’s the degree and sign it was in during the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which many people consider the birth of the modern-day United States. Astrologers are considering this the U.S.’s personal Pluto return, and because Pluto is known for shaking up current dynamics and pushing them to crumble — all to allow them to be put back together in a restorative way that aligns with the status quo — they are predicting that the country may undergo some major changes, hopefully for the better.

I mean let's face it, if there had been no bank run, the company would be fine because it's government securities and other extremely safe crap.

I feel like 50% or more of unrealized losses to total equity is still a huge red flag though. less than 20% seems fine as long as the HTM securities are Investment grade/risk free.

As far as I'm aware it's actually no longer possible to bail out banks:

Former Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd and former Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank — the co-authors of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, a law aimed at making banks safer in order to protect consumers and the economy — told Marketplace that legislators wouldn’t agree to save failing financial institutions with taxpayer money like they did back in 2008.

“Not only politically could you not get away with what we were able to do in 2008, but legally you cannot do it,” Dodd said.

Apparently only bail-ins are allowed nowadays.

Anyways, the fine print says I have to maintain the balance for 3-6 months, so I expect not many people read that and dumped it into equities instead of leaving it as cash. I'm just as happy to do that because it's part of the "stable" part of my portfolio and it's effectively a 10% return on capital in 6 months. Very good numbers. I'm patient.
See >>54048651: I expect a few months for it to hit a critical level, and then perhaps 2-3 years to bottom out. I'm confident in entering a slow "guaranteed" trade with defined risk and waiting it out.

Not all credit unions are NCUA-insured ("only" 98% of them are). Some have DIF or ASI which have different rules. NCUA accounts and FDIC accounts are separate so if FDIC were out, credit unions' insurance would still work out. But would you really be confident the same wouldn't happen to credit unions in this case and keep your money there? Most people wouldn't be, and this could cause NCUA to collapse as well.
Both NCUA and FDIC are government-backed and the government can technically print to fill them up if needed. However that doesn't change just how many accounts are past the 250k limit. Those people will be scramming eitherway. Also, it's no longer legal to bail-out banks. I think this also applies to credit unions (however bail-ins are allowed. Honk honk!)

NVDA should not be directly affected by that. The problem is NVDA's customer base.

It depends on you set it up, but the basic thesis when you do this is that the entire sector will go in one direction, but your stocks will outperform, so you short the index and long your picks. This means that if you were wrong, you will have limited your losses. Conversely if you're right, you would have reduced your gains, but that's because there's no free lunch.
Of course you can do the logical inversion and go both long your stocks and long the index, or short your stocks and the index, etc.
You can also play with size to invert the logical impact of the relative volatility of the two legs (e.g. counteract beta).
