They flushed all the existing state from their 2FA system and forced people to use the main phone number tied to their account. This suggests an attacker was trying to change the 2FA numbers associated with accounts to numbers under their own control.

Social engineering to get the indian tech support guy to transfer your 2fa sim onto their sim, only works if they already know your password. If they know your password, then the situation is a million times worse without 2fa than with.
